How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different in that I now have more livestock to keep in my compound having sold all that I had before to pay school fees for my children. It is so embarrassing at times to stay without any livestock in my community and more often it is a sign of poverty. Having sold all of my livestock to pay school fees for my children and remaining with non, I felt so much disadvantaged and was lost on where to start having very little income from my casual jobs and proceeds from subsistence farming. With these transfers I was not only able to pay back debt accumulated in the past days but also bought livestock with the remainder. I am optimistic that the livestock bought from these transfers shall go a long way in reclaiming my financial status and allowing me to meet other family needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did so well in their distribution of money among various people in our village by making sure that they were so transparent. The fact that the money was also unconditional gave us the opportunity to choose how best we could spend the money. On the other hand I did not see anything that I thought GiveDirectly did not do so well and I would just recommend that they continue doing what they are doing in the manner they are doing.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used part of my second transfer to pay back some debt that I had taken from neighbors and relatives to pay school fees for my children. I used the remaining amount to clear school fees arrears in the schools that they studied in and this gave them an opportunity to collect their certificates as they prepare to pursue different courses in their tertiary levels of education.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my life is that now I got peace in my heart after I cleared all the debt I had. Before, I would shy off from meeting my lenders as I was worried that they would ask me for their money. Now am happy having no debt and my child has received her certificate after clearing her school fees arreas. She is now ready to join college soon.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy when I received the money from GD and am so grateful to entire Give Directly.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
The moment I received this payment from GD, I had a debt of KES 35000 which I had borrowed to pay school fees for my children. I spent the money to pay the debt and bought a barbed wire for fencing at KES 6000. I also spent KES 2500 to clear school fees arrears for my child who completed high school the previous year. I am left with KES 9000 which I will spend to build a farm produce store.
