"The challenge I'm facing currently is the lack of money to pay for my son, Hillary's school fees. Since he joined Form 1 in 2020 I've been forced to sell all my goats and a piece of land. This has left me broke and without a livelihood. At the moment he has $150 fee arrears, which I don't know how I will pay. This stresses me so much."

"My husband has been ill and indisposed for some time now, he is suffering from diabetes. His health has deteriorated as a result of being wasted by the disease. He cannot not even take care of himself, he is being supported because his body is weak. We have sold all the goats we had to raise funds for his medication. He is currently in Kabarnet Hospital undergoing treatment, he has suffered and undergone a lot of pain. It bothers me greatly, I pray that he got healed soon and come home."

"Climate change has caused us untold suffering. It is not predictable and has caused us uncertainties, for the last three years we have had a failed rainy season and therefore we were not able to plant food crops and subsequently we have been hard hit by food insecurity. We had been planting in anticipation but the crops failed and led to huge losses. The livestock have also not been spared because of the lack of pasture and water, people have had to dig into their pockets to purchase pasture but those who cannot afford simply let their livestock suffer the fate of the devastating effects of drought. Some have died which led to losses to the livestock keepers."

"Paying school fees for our five children in both secondary and university has been an uphill task. In a year, we need at least $2000. Education is very expensive and has made our lives very hard. We're both teachers, employed by the government. We borrow loans to support them. This has drained our income."

"My biggest challenge is getting food. I have a problem with my leg which hinders me from doing several tasks. I depend on well wishers from the community mostly because it's hard getting something to do. I can only heard goats and in return offered food. This is hard to come by because of my limited movement.
Sometimes I am forced to go hungry, when I don't get a hearding job or someone to offer me food. This has made my life really difficult."

"Food insecurity is a big challenge for our household. It's difficult putting food on the table since we are old and both cannot work optimally. My wife cannot do anything at all. We depend on simple tasks such as clearing small bushes, which I do. I also do little farming.
Mostly we depend on our children to provide for us. This strains them and sometimes they may not have the money to support us. Old age has affected our ability to fully support ourselves."

"Life at the moment has become so tough due to the harsh economic situation in our area. Commodities are very expensive and this means doing all kinds of jobs to make ends meet. Since we live in a polygamous family, we struggle to meet our very basic needs. This has pushed me to engage in charcoal burning as a source of income. In a month, I make utmost $28. This income can not fully cater to our needs and sometimes we go hungry. As a mother, watching my children crying due to hunger makes me feel so painful. I, therefore, have always considered financial constraints to be my biggest challenge."

"In the year 2018, my husband passed away. This compelled me to assume all the responsibilities of parenting. Since I am unskilled, the only work I am fully engaged in is charcoal burning. This job is very energy-intensive and time-consuming yet, its income is usually minimal, say; $20 per month. Considering the high cost of living, this income can not fully cater to our basic needs. For over 3 years now, I have spent my nights on the floor because I do not have the money to buy beddings. This has robbed away my happiness since I am always shy to be seen on the floor. For this matter, I consider financial instability as the biggest challenge in my life."

"Being a widow means taking care of my 4 children single-handedly. Considering the high cost of living, I am currently facing a lot of challenges in supporting their education. Since my main work of charcoal burning earns me very little, usually $25 per month. It has become so hard to sustain all our needs. To an extent, my children would miss classes for at least a week before they resume. At home, we mostly skip meals or survive on one a day, a situation that has directly affected our health status. Watching my children desperately has robbed away my joy as a mother. Hence, financial constraints stand out as my main challenge."

"The main challenge I'm faced with at the moment is a lack of food. Because of the prolonged drought, I've not been able to grow any crops which has led to a lack of food in our household. In addition to this, it has been difficult to get manual work which my husband and I depend on to be able to sustain our family's needs. This has forced us to go hungry without food occasionally. This saddens me so much."
