"Food insecurity is the greatest challenge in this area due to prolonged drought. With age I am not able to fend for my family hence we rely on our children to provide for us. This makes us look like we are burdening them because they too have families to take care of. We mostly take two meals a day and in small portions so that whatever we have can last us long. This has affected our health because we lack nnutritious food."

"The lack of a stable source of income is my biggest challenge. My wife and I rely on casual jobs to earn a living and with inconsistency in rain, we hardly get work to do forcing us to sell the goats we have to raise school fees for our children. Sometimes, they stay home for lack of money and this has greatly affected their studies and I feel embarrassed about it."

"Paying school fees for our five children in secondary school and university has been an uphill task. My husband has taken up loans that we have not been able to repay for the past two years making us strain financially. If we had a stable source of income, we could have settled all the arrears."

"The challenge I'm facing at the moment is the lack of money. I used to own a kinyozi business (Barber Shop) in a center near our village and since electricity is not available I was dependent on solar power. However, it's unfortunate that my battery got spoiled which put me out of business. This has led me to do menial work Since I don't have money to purchase a new battery. Because of this I don't have enough money to meet my daily needs which makes life very difficult for me."

"The main challenge that I'm facing currently is the lack of money. In the past year, there has been a prolonged drought which has made it difficult for me to get menial work on the irrigation farms. This has made life very difficult for me since I don't get enough money to buy food and other basic needs."

"The challenge I'm facing currently is the lack of money to pay for my son, Hillary's school fees. Since he joined Form 1 in 2020 I've been forced to sell all my goats and a piece of land. This has left me broke and without a livelihood. At the moment he has $150 fee arrears, which I don't know how I will pay. This stresses me so much."

"My husband has been ill and indisposed for some time now, he is suffering from diabetes. His health has deteriorated as a result of being wasted by the disease. He cannot not even take care of himself, he is being supported because his body is weak. We have sold all the goats we had to raise funds for his medication. He is currently in Kabarnet Hospital undergoing treatment, he has suffered and undergone a lot of pain. It bothers me greatly, I pray that he got healed soon and come home."

"Climate change has caused us untold suffering. It is not predictable and has caused us uncertainties, for the last three years we have had a failed rainy season and therefore we were not able to plant food crops and subsequently we have been hard hit by food insecurity. We had been planting in anticipation but the crops failed and led to huge losses. The livestock have also not been spared because of the lack of pasture and water, people have had to dig into their pockets to purchase pasture but those who cannot afford simply let their livestock suffer the fate of the devastating effects of drought. Some have died which led to losses to the livestock keepers."

"Paying school fees for our five children in both secondary and university has been an uphill task. In a year, we need at least $2000. Education is very expensive and has made our lives very hard. We're both teachers, employed by the government. We borrow loans to support them. This has drained our income."

"My biggest challenge is getting food. I have a problem with my leg which hinders me from doing several tasks. I depend on well wishers from the community mostly because it's hard getting something to do. I can only heard goats and in return offered food. This is hard to come by because of my limited movement.
Sometimes I am forced to go hungry, when I don't get a hearding job or someone to offer me food. This has made my life really difficult."
