"I spent my entire third transfer on building a 3 room house for 50,000 KES, though not yet completed. Actually, my family is already living in the unfinished house as necessitated by the fact that our previous house was grass-thatched and leaked badly. We are financing the completion process through funds created from my Brick-making business that I initiated using 36,000 KES from my second transfer, from which I bought varied equipment and tools to start me off. I started with 4,000 bricks, but currently I am processing 6,000 bricks, for which I already have potential buyers. I hire 4 Casual workers at any one given time for the purpose of digging out the soil, mixing, moulding and processing. We have a complementary source of funding from a Retail Kiosk in which I invested 10,000 KES from my second transfer as well. This particular business has grown to a level of 15,000 KES working capital. In addition, the ventures have enabled me to join 3 Women/Savings groups since August 2017. I have been saving 1,600 KES per month, and additional 100 KES daily that translates to about round 3,000 KES monthly, so a grand total of about 4,600 KES. Life looks up for us as a family since our standard of living has improved a great deal, and we plan to transfer our children from Public to Private Schools for more effective learning as schools reopen in January 2018. We also plan to complete our house soon. The greatest difference in my life is that my stress level has reduced a great deal, because in my view, having income brings about change."

"I spent my third transfer on a donkey for 12,000 KES for the purpose of water transportation from the source. Before GD support I spent 60 minutes to fetch 20 litres of water which I carried on my and could therefore only make two trips per day and which was very straining, yet I still had to perform all the other house-hold duties because I am a woman. With GD support, currently I use the donkey I bought to fetch 80 litres within the same 60 minutes and I do not carry any weight. I plan to serve other villages for a fee once the drought situation gets worse and water sources become more scarce. I also bought two goats for 6,000 KES.I spent the balance on household furniture for 28,000 KES."
