"My house is made of soil, but because our soil type is sandy, the house is usually destroyed during the rainy season forcing me to repair it every end of a rainy season. It feels like we have a temporary structure which has to be repaired every time even though the house is pretty descent. To take care of this issue, we have decided to plaster the entire house to make it more durable and even more presentable. This, however, will require a lot of money and since I do not have any source of income, I will have to do it over a very long period of time. I know it will be very tough as I also rely on the transfers for other household and personal needs, but picturing how great the house will look and the idea of having a break from constant smearing make all the sacrifices I will make to achieve this goal even more worthwhile. In my area, having a plastered house automatically takes one to different level in the society and how great it will be for the transfers to help me achieve that."

"In the upcoming year and beyond, my primary goal is to enhance my financial stability, which I plan to accomplish by expanding my poultry business. This expansion will result in increased income, with a particular focus on incorporating additional chicken species, notably layers. The introduction of layers will enable me to sell eggs, further bolstering my income streams."

"In the upcoming year and beyond, my primary goal is to effectively restore my mud house. With each heavy rainfall, the mud walls tend to crumble, leading to substantial repair expenses. I intend to substitute the mud walls with stonework to enhance the house's longevity and stability. Additionally, alongside the house repairs, I aspire to increase my savings to support my son's education as he enters secondary school next year. This effort will ensure a seamless transition for him to pursue his education with ease."

"The tough financial times I have experienced this year have been a great learning point for me. It is also clear that I cannot earn enough from the grocery business I operate to cater for all my financial needs, and if I need to improve my living standards and give my children the best education, I need to improve my earnings either by bringing in several other items or opening another business to run concurrently with the current one. After carefully thinking about it and doing a bit of research, I have decided to open a hotel business in a nearby centre. I will be operating the hotel business concurrently with the grocery business in order to improve my earnings. To achieve this, I have been saving part of my monthly transfers in local savings group consisting of 33 individuals and at the end of the year, we will be getting back our savings which I will then use to set up the business. Having only a few left to end of this wonderful program., I need to do my best to ensure that by the time it ends, I will have a stable source of income and live a much better life than I was when I was enrolled. The transfers will also be of great help in terms of improving the hotel business and purchasing all the necessary equipment."

"I am optimistic about the business's progress in the future. Once it gains momentum, I will consider exploring alternative businesses based on the ideas I will have thought of. Currently, I'm in the process of obtaining a medical insurance to ease the financial burden of my son's medical expenses. This will also allow us to comfortably manage my Six year old children's school fees."

"We currently live in a one roomed mud house, with my family of six. It's difficult sharing one room with my children and wife. There's no privacy. I need a separate house for me and my wife. The children and visitors can share the current one. A separate house gives us privacy and enough room for our children to even read at night with minimal disturbance. Sharing one room is difficult for everyone."

"Upon receiving my second transfer from Give Directly, I was determined to tackle some pressing needs in my home. I withdrew $360: $260 of which went towards purchasing four goats, something I hadn't been able to do with my initial transfer. I allocated $100 to buy comfortable bedding for my kids, who had been sleeping on the floor for a long while. It was deeply saddening to see them endure the harsh local weather conditions without proper bedding. Additionally, I set aside $165 for their school fees for when schools reopened."

"Food insecurity is the biggest challenge due to persistent drought. Since I am getting older and weak, fending for myself is difficult hence I rely fully on people donations and assistance to be able to feed myself and my grandson. We take one meal a day , which has rendered me weak and prone to diseases because of lack of proper nutrition."

"From my perspective, GiveDirectly has truly excelled by providing substantial lump-sum transfers. This approach is exceptional, as I have never encountered any other organization offering such significant support. These transfers have empowered us to undertake substantial projects. For instance, in my personal experience, I was able to construct a better and more comfortable house for my family. I express my sincere gratitude to GiveDirectly for their impactful contributions."
