"My family is very huge, but the piece of land that we own is very little. As it is, there is 7 acres to be divide among 7 sons which means each will receive only an acre or less. Considering that each of the sons also have many children, my family not exempted, it is important that we acquire extra portions of land on our own if our children to have plots to construct their homes and farm in future. Fortunately, land is still very affordable in this locality with an acre going for as low as $400, meaning with proper planning, I can acquire a parcel through the transfers. To achieve this, I must invest wisely hence the reason I am currently purchasing goats using my transfers with an aim of later selling them to purchase cows as they are easy to manage especially during drought. With single cow fetching up to $200, all I need to have is at least 2 large cows to be able to purchase my first acre after which I will start the process all over again. It would make me very proud to have such an investment by the time this project comes to an end as it will be a lifetime proof of the project's impact in our lives."

"I am work as a motorcycle taxi operator using a hired motorcycle, but my major goal is to own a motorcycle so as to improve my daily earnings. At the moment, I have to ensure I remit a daily fee to the motorcycle owner regardless of what my daily earning is but with my own a motorcycle, all the daily earnings will be mine meaning an improved income. To realize this dream, I have to take a loan from a sacco which I believe is possible because Give Directly transfers already ensure my children's school needs are taken care of and with the recent harvests, we have enough food for months. With the reduced financial burden at home, my daily earnings from the new motorcycle will be partly used to service the loan and the rest spent on the household needs. It would be great to achieve this within the coming year so that I can have ample time to clear the loan while the program is still on."

"I am currently employed as a gardener in Mombasa which is not my dream job, but was the best I could land after dropping out of school in 2021 and staying idle at home for 2 years. Living in Mombasa for almost a year has opened my eyes to different job opportunities which unfortunately require certain skills that I do not have at the moment. I would like to take a driving course and also train as a mechanic through the help of the transfers. This way, when the project is over, I will have gained valuable skills that will be of service to me throughout my life and will also help me acquire decent jobs. This is why I am currently saving $20 from my monthly transfers in a savings group to enable me enrol for the courses from the begging of next year. Since my parent's support is out of the picture due to their lack of decent income, I have to take care of this on my own hence the reason I had to settle on courses that are affordable."

"I am happy that the recent planting season was a success, providing my family with enough food that should last us for the remainder of the year. This allows me to allocate funds to areas other than food, something that was quite challenging when food was a constant concern for the family. My particular interest is in livestock keeping. With the assistance of the cash transfers, I have been able to acquire nine chickens and three goats. However, my goal is to focus more on raising goats to build a more sustainable form of wealth. Even when the cash transfers come to an end, I am confident that selling these animals will generate the funds needed to meet my needs and those of my family. Besides, this will reduce my dependence on my son."

"My aspirations involve expanding my current entities. I have a vision to grow the vegetable-selling business into a kiosk. Currently, there are no kiosk shops in my community, and people have to walk more than 20 minutes to reach the trading center. This presents an ideal opportunity for me to enter this business and serve my community. Additionally, I am keen on expanding my livestock holdings to include goats and cows. Through the poultry I am raising, I plan to sell some of them to purchase goats. As the goat herd grows, I intend to sell some to acquire cows eventually. I hope that future cash transfers will continue to support these goals, which are all aimed at generating income to sustain my children's education and relieve some of the financial pressure on my husband."

"With another rainy season on the horizon, I see another opportunity to grow food crops on my farm. My primary goal is to increase the stock of food we recently harvested from the last planting season. This will ensure that my family has an adequate food supply. With this, I aim to use the cash transfers to expand my vegetable-selling business into a kiosk business, which I believe will bring in more profits and provide greater stability. Currently, it is the sole source of income I rely on to support my children's education, and my greatest wish is for it to grow and generate more income."

"I've harboured a long-standing aspiration to establish a small shop as a means of generating income. While I've been engaged in subsistence farming and livestock management, which are certainly commendable endeavours, they haven't consistently yielded substantial returns. Consequently, providing for my family's basic necessities, such as food and education for my children, has proven to be quite challenging. My current objective is to accumulate sufficient savings to procure a substantial inventory of cereals, sugar, and household goods that I can retail for a profit. This will help reduce our dependence on subsistence farming, which is both seasonal and subject to occasional failure. Launching the shop will establish a more dependable income source, and this is a goal I am committed to achieving in the upcoming year and beyond."

"Running my business is a responsibility I take very seriously. It's not just a source of income; it's my livelihood, and I'm determined to make it thrive. I've put in a lot of hard work and dedication to ensure its success, and I have big plans for its future. One of my major goals is to expand the business further. I believe that by scaling up my operations, I can increase my profits and financial stability. This growth will also bring more employment opportunities to the community, which is something I'm passionate about. I want to contribute to the economic development of my area and create jobs for others. Additionally, my business aspirations extend to the point where I can save up enough funds to purchase a dairy cow. Having a dairy cow would be a significant asset for my family. Not only would it provide us with a steady supply of milk for our consumption, but it would also open up opportunities for us to sell surplus milk and generate additional income. To achieve these goals, I plan to continue managing my business diligently, exploring new strategies, and staying informed about market trends. With a lot of humility, I am grateful to GiveDirectly for enabling me to make all these possible within the shortest time, and will uphold this newfound status going forward."
