"It is said that education is the key to a better life and as a parent, it has always been my greatest wish to ensure that all my ten children receive the best education that I was personally never given the chance to attain in my time simply because I was a woman. Up to this far, I have greatly struggled and my eldest child is in college pursuing a tailoring course. However in order for her to reach this far, her other siblings had to be sacrificed whereby some even had to repeat classes in order to give me a gap of paying school fees. This has made them to lag behind so much and this hurts me a lot. With this money I see my dream coming true.I will pay part of their pending school fees and with the rest, invest in a shop business so that the income can be more consistent to see all of them through to college."

"Poor harvests due to drought and unreliable rainfall patterns has been the biggest challenge we face in our family. We no longer depend on crop farming as an occupation like in the past, despite owning 2 acres of land. We have resolved to engage in dairy farming but poor climatic conditions have also led to poor milk production. My husband works as a security guard and the little amount he earns at the end of the month ( ksh 4000) can't sustain all the needs of our family."

"It was around 3 a.m. when I received a message notification on my phone. Since I was awake at that time, I decided to check who the sender was. My heart was filled with happiness upon realizing that GiveDirectly had deposited the promised money into my account. I knew that my dream of owning a dairy cow would soon be realized."

"Receiving this money means that I will be able to build iron-roofed house. Iam currently staying in agrass thatched house but it's becoming costly to maintain since grass is scarce. I spend money that could be used for educating for children in maintaing the house. Once I build a permanent house , I will be able to save money spend in maintaing the house for educating my children and providing other basic needs."

"Receiving this money means that I will buy land and some household items for my family. It has not been productive in crop farming since I just hire land each season in terms of costs visa visa out put. Owing land will enable me carry out extensive crop farming hence increase in production to sustain the needs of my family members."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk from my neighbors and it was so costly for me. I do casual jobs in the village and the small amount of money that I get was not enough to enable me to buy a dairly cow. I also have a small retail shop that I operate the center and the income from this business would only gather for school fees for my daughter who is in secondary school. I am so happy for the support because I no longer buy milk and this has reduced the cost that I was incurring on a daily basis. My family has enough milk and we no longer miss breakfast like sometimes before. I sell the surplus milk to ean an income to buy other additional needs for my household. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our standard of living."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to buy a piece of land that I can cultivate and get food, build an iron roofed house that I can comfortably sleep in, buy some poultry and livestock. These can help me to take care of any eventualities that may arise because I can be able to sell off some and raise some money. "

"The biggest hardship I face in my life is lack of a spacious house. I have a small iron roofed house with a low roof and small rooms which can not accommodate me and my household members. We squeeze ourselves in a small house with no privacy because of its small size. "

"The biggest hardship I have continued to face is raising school fees for my children.Being a single parent of five and the sole breadwinner, all the weight of ensuring that my family feeds,is clothed and educated is all on me.This is often difficult bearing in mind that I do not have formal employment where am guaranteed an income hence I fully depend on my maize farm to produce enough to eat as well as sell. This has not been the case for some years now where we have faced prolonged dry seasons and crop diseases that have hindered good harvests."

"In the next six months, I expect my life to change in that I shall have registered with an organization that gives farmers inputs on credit (One Acre Fund). By being part of this organization I will enjoy the services of being given fertilizers and hybrid seeds to be paid back at a later date. This will be a great step towards improving crop production that will enable me to have enough food for the family and even practice agribusiness."
