Kiprotich
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"In the next six months, I believe that I will be expecting to harvest maize. All throughout, I have always wanted to have enough maize to take us to the next season so that I would cut the coast of buying food and with the little money which I earn from the sale of farm produce I spend on items which are processed."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have cemented the floor of my house. We used to live in a small house. The floor was so dusty. This was exposing us to respiratory diseases which is so costly to treat. I could smear the floor on monthly basis and during the dry season, it was very dusty. I depend on small scale farming to earn an income to meet other households' needs. I could not get extra money to save to enable me to cement the house though this was always my wish. When I received the money I felt it was the right time to cement the house. We live in a free dust house, we are no longer being exposed to respiratory-related diseases and I no longer look for soil to smear like before. I am so much grateful for the support it has changed my living standard."

Daniel
received a $22 twenty-first payment.
"I have been spending most of my transfers on roofing sheets for the past one year with the hope of constructing a new house to replace the current one that is leaking because I have not been able to get grass within our area to cover up the leaking areas. I am close to getting all the required construction materials for the new house and I hope that in six months, I will be living in a better spacious iron-roofed house."

Salome
received a $536 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk from my neighbors and it was so costly for me. I depend on the casual jobs in the village to earn an income to meet the basic needs. I could wake up early in the morning to look for casual jobs in the village and came back late at night. This was making me not to work on my own farm and even bond with my family. When there was no manual jobs we were forced to miss milk and even food for the whole day because there was no other source of income. Currently, I have enough milk for my family and I sell the surplus to meet other additional needs for the family. My children no longer miss milk like before. I have devoted much of my time on my own farm and reduced the casual jobs that I had been doing before. I am so much grateful for the support because it has changed our standard of living."

Richard
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"My vision is to venture into poultry farming. After I completed constructing the house that would be my next step. I intend to start rearing chicken so that I would sell eggs to enable me to gather for my family basic needs. Chicken is easy to keep and eggs are on high demand at the local market. This would earn me some good income and safe me from tedious casual jobs which are not reliable sometimes."

"The moment when I received my money I felt so happy. I remember it was very early in the morning when I heard a message from my phone. When I checked it I could not believe my eyes, I have never received such amount of money before. I immediately inform my spouse and children who also celebrated. I knew from that point that I would be able to pay school fees for my son who was to do exams in a week's time."

"It was a few minutes to 6 am when I received a message notification on my phone. Since the message alert tone was loud, I woke up and decided to read its contents. I became so happy after realizing that GiveDirectly had finally sent me the money I had been waiting for anxiously. I knew that my plan of buying a dairy cow would soon be achieved."

"Paying my daughter's school fees is usually my biggest problem and I am never relaxed when she has any balances. Sarah
received a $536 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have cleared the school fees for my children in secondary school. I depend on the casual jobs in the village and farming to get an income to meet all the basic needs of the family including school fees for my children. I used to wake up in the morning go for casual jobs and came back during the evening and this denied me time to bond with my children. I could pay the fees in installments but still, my children could be sent home. This was affecting their performance because they could stay at home for a long time because I did not have the money to pay immediately. I was so much demoralized because of that. After getting the money from GiveDirectly I cleared all the school fees and my children are no longer sent home and this has improved their performance. I am so happy and I do my daily activities well without any stress like before."

"In the next six months, my life will have changed because I will have taken a driving course. I will have acquired a driving license that will give me more job opportunities. This will give me a chance to have a decent source of income. I also believe that I will have fully furnished the house that I am currently building."
