"I have a small business selling a type of tuna locally referred to as "omena", my husband sells bread. These businesses do not make enough to sustain family needs. My main concern at the moment is my house, it is falling apart and I do not have the finances to build a new house. I would like to use Givedirectly transfers to buy iron sheets which are becoming expensive by the day. As at now I have 4 sheets of iron and I need 16 sheets more. I am planning to use my cash transfers to ensure that this new house is completed and am able to move out of this delapitated space."

"I have 3 school going children, one in grade 6, another in grade four and the other in grade two. My husband and I both sell charcoal to make ends meet. This business of selling charcoal has been greatly affected by the drought and then the heavy rainfall. We have an almost nonexistent income with school going children. It is difficult to predict if we will be able to cater for their schooling but we hope through the transfers we can get them through school and also buy a number of chicken that can be sold to make an income to be used to educate my children."

My husband came back home in October and also has no work he is engaged in now. Secondary school is expensive and with no income we are not sure we can facilitate our child's schooling, Our goal is to have her join Secondary school if the money becomes available or wait and join a technical training when we get enough money to facilitate this."

"I was a tailor actively making an income until I gave birth to my fourth born who is now 1year four months. I now fully depend on my husband on income who works in a company selling electronics. I try to alleviate his financial burdens using the transfers hence my decision to use my transfers to buy a mattress for the children. As much as he may be able to buy the mattress we still have other pressing needs like building a new house as ours has become destroyed over the years by the rain. My goal for now is buying the mattress which I hope to achieve using December transfers and to use the cash to ensure our house needs are taken care of so my husband can save for a new house."

"I sell charcoal to get an income, my husband farms for income. I have not had an income for two months, I cannot burn charcoal with the rains. It has been a blessing but the El-nino led to a number of losses including some seedlings we had in a bed to replant. This season will be preceded by another long drought and since we would like to farm to generate income we want to direct our funds next year to digging a well which we will use to do irrigation and ensure that our crops thrive. We will also save for a water pump to help get the water to the house."

"In the upcoming year, I have set two primary goals: completing the renovation of my house and expanding my existing goat herd. Acquiring more goats is a strategic investment aimed at supporting my children's education in the future. The renovation of my home not only enhances its security but also provides a more stable living environment for my family. To achieve these aspirations, I plan to utilize my savings. I am filled with happiness and gratitude for the opportunity to improve my life and work towards creating a better future for my family."

"Before my husband's passing, he had acquired a parcel of land intending to build a home. Regrettably, he was unable to realize this plan. My objective for the upcoming year is to initiate the construction of our family home on this property. I've diligently saved the financial assistance I received, accumulating resources to purchase necessary building materials. I am optimistic that construction will commence in the coming year. The prospect of having a permanent residence holds significant meaning for my children as they will have a place to call their own, a lasting legacy in honor of their late father. The anticipation of realizing these goals brings me immense joy, and I eagerly look forward to the fulfillment of this heartfelt endeavor."
