"In 2013, I joined Kabete College to pursue a course in animal health. This is something that I loved and dreamt about since my childhood. Unfortunately, I dropped after only 1 semester due to lack of school fees. I could not raise 250000 shillings that was required for the same. This broke my heart and shattered my dream. It has been years since I was last in school, and I can not think of any other meaningful thing I can do to replace my childhood dream. Only God knows the amount of frustrations this has made me go through. Being labeled a 'school drop out' by some neighbors is something that is slowly killing me. I am so determined to complete my studies and over these years I have saved a total of 40000 shillings towards the same. Receiving this money will mean the world to me because it will get me back to class once again."

"It has been hard to find food, and sometimes it is difficult to go to our fields because of hunger. Sometimes we sleep without eating anything."

"Doing crop farming in an area with unfavorable climatic conditions has been the biggest hardship I have faced in life. I have been realizing poor yields and subsequently low income from my onion farming. Hence, I have not managed to do other developmental projects or even improve our living standards."

"I have been aspiring to be a nurse since my childhood. However, the biggest challenge I have faced is conceiving and delivering my firstborn child while I was in Grade 10. This adversely impacted my academic performance and progress. Eventually, I scored relatively low marks that could not allow me to be admitted to a university. So, I have to join college to advance my course before joining the university for further studies. Hence, I will take a longer time to attain my dream goal and job."

"I have been planting maize in my 0.5 acre piece of land for so many years.About 10 years ago,I would harvest up to five bags from it.This was enough to feed my family until the next harvest. However, eventually the produce dropped very significantly. This was mainly caused by recent prolonged droughts. For a few years now,I have been harvesting about one sack. This cannot keep the family even for two months. This has therefore forced me to depend on my children because of my old age. This is often difficult because they also have dependants who they need to fend for,and has at some point left me without food to eat. This has been the biggest hardship I have faced."

"Prolonged period of drought has been the biggest hardship I have faced in life. This has led to low crop production in our area. My future plan is to use my second transfer to buy a dairy cow of approximately Ksh 35,000. I will be able to sell surplus milk and use the remaining domestically. My projection is to milk 5 litres a day; I will sell 4 litres at Ksh 30 per litre and 1 litre for domestic use. This will bring a sigh of relief in my life."

"Receiving this money will mean so much to me. I have a plan to construct a better house that befits an old woman like myself. The house that I currently live in is made of timber with gaps on the walls thus making it extremely cold at night. This is against the doctor's advice that I sleep in a warm place. If I get lucky enough to be enrolled in the GiveDirectly program, I will renovate my current house to make it warm enough for someone like myself. Filling the gaps on the walls and also having the ceiling boards fixed will cost me about 30000 shillings."
