Karisa
received a $22 twenty-first payment.
"My wife has been jobless and I have been the only one making an income. I used to get motorcycle riding jobs on casual basis but they did not pay much as most of the money I got went into paying the owner and fuelling. I wanted to buy my own motorcycle so as to reduce this expenses. I now own the motorcycle though on loan. I am now in the city running the business to make an income. I hope to be able to pay for the motorcycle fully from the proceeds of working with it while paying my savings group loan using the transfers."

Amina
received a $22 twenty-first payment.
"I have 8 children who are school going. This is a big number to manage with our finances as parents since our jobs/ business is unpredictable. I would want all of them to attend school and finish to a secondary level. I know that can only be made possible by increasing our income. We are starting a chicken business where we sell and buy chicken. I now have 15 chicken and this I hope to increase in number until I have more animals. I believe with this I will be able to increase my income and ensure I am able to take the children to school without a struggle."

"I have been passionate about community work from my time as a child. My goal was to find a career that allowed me to serve my community. On being enrolled to the Givedirectly project, I revived this dream which lay dead for so many years. I am now saving so I can achieve the desired $560 to ensure I start school as I find other ways to save cash to help me pay my school fees. I want to be able to complete school and come back to serve my community as well as help my mother support the children still in school."

"As I mentioned earlier my husband is a casual worker in the sense that he does jobs when there are some available. He sometimes is a driver, sometimes he is working in a construction site and other times taking motorcycle rides. I would want a more stable income even as our children grow older and so this is my reason for investing my money in the business. I plan to continue investing the business so that we can use the proceeds to take the children through school."

Riziki
received a $334 second payment.
"Receiving the unconditional cash transfer felt like a lifeline to me, a breath of fresh air amid financial struggles. With the $500, I made a strategic decision to invest in a pair of oxen. These bulls weren't just a purchase; they were the foundation of a new business venture. My plan was to offer their ploughing services to my friends' farms at a reasonable rate of $25 per acre. This not only provided me with a steady income but also allowed me to cultivate my own five acres efficiently, a task that was once daunting when done by hand. The oxen became more than just a source of income; they became partners in transforming my small piece of land into a productive asset. The remaining amount from the cash transfer was wisely utilized to buy new school uniforms for my seven children, all in lower grades. Juggling the responsibilities of a charcoal business that barely made ends meet, it had been a struggle to ensure timely payments for their education, as my husband lacked a permanent job. With the new uniforms, I felt a sense of relief knowing that my children would not only attend school comfortably but also with a renewed sense of dignity. The oxen and the school uniforms became symbols of hope, representing a shift from the constant financial strain to a future where my family could thrive with both sustenance and education."

"In the upcoming year, my goal is to expand my goat inventory. Presently, I own nine goats, and I aim to double this count, with the ultimate goal of selling them off to purchase a cow. Achieving this milestone will be a significant accomplishment, as it opens up opportunities to generate income for my family through the sale of milk. I plan to utilize the forthcoming transfers to facilitate this expansion of my livestock. I am content with the progress I have made this far and am optimistic about the positive impact this endeavor will have on the financial well-being of my family."
