"I spent a big portion of my first t4nqawsder on buying some building iron sheets, building poles, timber, threads and nails. I purchased all these with an intention of constructing a new house since the current one was in critical condition and almost collapsing. Also, I bought an ox which will help me in my agricultural activities since I am a farmer. Also with the reaming amount of money, I bought sufficient foodstuffs for my family that would at least take us to the next weeks."

"I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials which include several building poles, iron sheets, nails and timber. This was purely for the constriction of a new house since the previous one was in a poor state and very small it could not accommodate some of my family members. I later cleared some school fees arrears for my children since they had huge balances, With the reming amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs and some decent clothes for my children. "The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own a decent big house. Being a single parent and depending on the casual jobs I could not imagine that I would own it anytime soon. It's still unbelievable to me. Before the coming of GiveDirectly, I used under a very small house with a single room and it could not accommodate some of my children. During the winter season, we never hard peace because we could be rained on most of the time. it was really hectic. Secondly, there was no privacy in my house since the house was single-roomed. I am now grateful because the new house is spacious enough and I no longer have to worry about the rains and harsh climate."

Kadzo
received a $501 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now a proud owner of goats and this is the best gift that I have received in my life. I settled on rearing goats because they reproduce twice a year and require less supervision to rear compared to other domestic animals. To add to that, their food is also easily available since they can live in any type of climate. This makes me believe that very soon they will multiply and increase in number. My plan is to sell some to the local markets and generate an income. This will help me settle my bills on time such as paying school fees for my children. And according to me, these are the well-thoughtful assets that will help me in the near future."

"I was preparing lunch for my children when I heard my phone ringing loudly. This was so unusual since I was not expecting a message from anyone at such an hour. I decided to ask my spouse to check who might have sent the message since I am illiterate. He later confirmed that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy and we started rejoicing becasue money would transform our lives positively."

Bendera
received a $501 initial payment.
"I spent part of my first transfer on buying some livestock such as goats at a total of KES 8000. I have been yearning to own them for years but I could not afford them because they were quite expensive. Also, I bought building materials such as iron sheets, building poles, nails ad timber. This was for the construction of a new better house because the current one was too small with a leaky roof. During the rainy season, it was so frustrating because I used to seek shelter from friends and some of my properties could get damaged, some being stolen. I had to undergo all those because I never had the required money to construct a decent house. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for the family"
