Chepkemoi
received a $502 initial payment.
"I can still recall I was at my friend's farm harvesting cowpeas when my mobile phone started vibrating. Since I had been been given a time frame for that particular job, I decided to ignore the message. After finishing the work is when I decide to check the content of the message. I was over executed and I remember leaving and rushing home. I was so glad to know my dream of owning a dairy cow is now achievable."

Sidi
received a $502 initial payment.
"I spent KES 20000 of my first transfer to pay school fees for my children. They had huge fee arrears and I could not pay for them on time. To avoid being discontinued on their studies, I cleared the arrears and paid in advance. This has given me enough time to prepare me for the next payment. I spent the remaining amount of the transfer on building a decent iron roofed house. I was previously sheltering in a grass thatched house with no hopes of upgrading to a better house. I purchased enough building materials which include iron sheets, building poles and nails to construct the new house. I am no longer worried whenever it rains unlike before when I would be forced to look for shelter elsewhere."

Fona
received a $502 initial payment.
"My first transfers which I received from GiveDirectly, I spent KES 20000 on purchasing building materials for constructing a new house for my girls. This was my first priority since we had only one house where we would occupy with my teenage girls and this isn't accepted in our culture. I also bought two goats for rearing at a cost of KES 7500. This would act as an investment to remember good deeds by GiveDirectly. I was lacking some clothes and food and I committed KES 17000 on buying two sacks of maize, utensils and a few pairs of clothes for my family members. Lastly, it was time for my two children to go back to school and I gave them KES 4000 for thier bus fare and pocket money. I am so greatful that I got these funds which enabled me to transform my livelihood and that of my children."

Linet
received a $502 initial payment.
"I spent part of my first transfer on buying three goats at a total of KES 9000. I opted in purchasing them because their food is readily available and they reproduce twice a year. To add to that, I bought some beddings which include a bed and mattress. Previously, I have used torn blankets as beddings which I was always uncomfortable with. Also, I started a business selling clothes in the town center which is now my main source of income and I think God so far so good. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuff for my family."
