"I am veru excited to be part of this program. We were just hearing how other people's lives changed with the cash assistance and now that the project is here we are very happy. I have always wanted to have chairs in my house. That will be the first thing I will buy and I will also buy iron sheets for the house and have the floor cemented."

"I am very grateful to be enrolled into this program. I shall now start plans to build a good house, mattress and other household items such as pots, plates and other basic furniture. This will help us live a better life than the one we are used to where we struggle with almost everything from beddings to food and house every year."

"Raising up my 8 children has been my biggest hardship. Getting to satisfy their needs like food, clothing, school fees and their health needs has been an uphill task. A good example is when my son had some health complications which really drained me financially. It was a situation that lasted for almost four years. He was in and out of hospital. At one time I had to leave my children with their grandmother inorder to look for employment in a nearby town. All this was to help pay his hospital bill and the debts I had."

"The lack of a reliable source of income is my biggest hardship. This has led to us lacking basic needs because I do not have money to meet them. My husband is a PSV driver while I burn charcoal. Both jobs have insufficient earnings causing my family to suffer."

Sidi
received a $513 initial payment.
"The first thing I considered after receiving my transfer was to construct a house for myself at only 15000 shillings. I also bought a solar panel at 15000 shillings because I used firewood as my source of light. The remaining amount of the transfer helped me to buy a bed plus a mattress at 10000 shillings and the remaining amount helped me to buy food because I have no reliable source of income."
