"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now sleeping in a decent house. To me, this is the greatest fulfillment that will forever remain in my heart. The shelter has been my biggest challenge since our old house was in a pathetic state and almost collapsing. It would leak uncontrollably when it rains forcing me to squeeze my items to corners to avoid them being rained on. The harsh weather and cold nights were unbearable. I had no hope of upgrading to a better house since I depend on my Husband's little income( KES 100 in a day) from his motorbike services. His income only catered for our daily food. I am at peace and grateful to GiveDirectly for enabling me to build a new and decent house to live in with my family. I am no longer worried about rains or even other insecurities."

"For now I am both mother and father for my two kids, supporting these children single handedly is of serious challenge for me, in the sense that, if I don't go on the farm to work and sell whatever I gather from there my children will not be able to eat. Since their father and I got separated I've not gotten anybody to help me with these children, so finding food and supporting them had seriously been my challenge."

"At times I can't afford for my children to eat, I have to begged other neighbours to help my children with food. The money my husband earned from palm he cuts cannot maintain our family and I am not doing anything now to help with some responsibility of the family. I really want to start my own business but I don't have money. Getting money to start my own business is my greatest challenge now."

"For the last ten years, I have been sheltering under a small hut and my dream was to upgrade to a better shelter. This is because its roof was old and anytime it would collapse. Therefore after receiving my first transfer, I bought some building materials which include iron sheets, building poles, ten bags of cement, timber, and nails at a total of KES 27550 to facilitate this. Also, I gave the mason KES 25000 as his labour charge. To add to that, I later saved KES 1000 to my account and this will be of help in case an emergency arises. Lastly, with the remaining amount, I purchased foodstuffs like maize flour, sugar, beans among others."
