Kadii
received a $437 second payment.
"GiveDirectly is an organization that came to make us proud and feels like the rest of human beings by empowering us. This is vivid from how the transfer enabled me to get a piece of land and started my home with my children. Initially, I used to stay at my parents' homestead together with my children after the death of my husband which led me to leave where I was married due to family issues. Currently, I am happy because I have my home and my children are happy since they are now free. I have never seen any fault related to GiveDirectly and I support the organization with the programs it offers."

Lilian
received a $452 second payment.
"I spent $450 on purchasing a dairy cow. This is because I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me since I did not have a steady source of income. I would spend $5 per week on milk. I rely on small-scale farming, I plant maize, beans and vegetables. These are mostly for consumption and I would sell extra to earn an income to pay school fees for my two children in secondary school and three in primary. I had always wished to own a dairy cow but I did not have the money to buy one. I would only struggle to pay the school fees and buy food for my children. Currently, I no longer buy milk and I can save the money that I would have used to meet other basic household items. GiveDirectly has enabled me to fulfill my dream and I am so grateful for the support. Besides that I spent $40 on purchasing hens, This will be my additional source of income since I will be selling the eggs to get an income. The remaining amount of money I spent on food and clothes for my children."

"With my cash transfer, I bought building materials such as iron sheets and timber..I am going to use these iron sheets on improving the roof of my house since It is already built.
I then bought 2 bags of fertiliser which I intend on applying in my maize field inorder to increase growth and boost fertility.
Lastly, I bought livestock such as goats which I will be raising outside the house...I then saved the other part of the money so that I can be using it in purchasing other needed stuff at home."

received a $345 initial payment.
"I bought agricultural materials such as fertiliser..I managed to procure 3 bags of fertiliser with an aim of promoting maize growth as well as boosting the fertility of my soil.
Secondly, with my cash transfer I decided to top up on the amount of food that I had inside the house so I bought 4 bags of maize..Since I have a small family, I feel the maize that I bought will be enough untill the end of the year.
Lastly I bought livestock such as goats and I saved part of the transfer with an intention of buying basic stuff such as soap, sugar as well as salt."

Naomi
enrolled.
"Lack of job! Currently, I am idle at home and I majorly depend on my husband who is a painter in Mombasa. His daily income is usually utmost $8, an income that hardly sustains our needs. This has compelled us to survive on one meal, a situation that has affected our health. In addition, I have felt so shameful remaining idle despite having skills in dressmaking."
