"The main challenge we are facing is that we have a small land in which we grow our crops. It is a challenge because we don't get enough production from it and for that it requires us to go for searching other income generating activities like cultivating for others so that we can get money to buy food to support our own produce . The other challenge is that we don't have a cow and because of that we are lacking manure to use in our agriculture activities hence the low production. In addition, living in this muddy house without fencing is another challenge, we would like to cover it with cement and build a fence."

"The main challenge we are facing is poverty as it is hard for us to find something to eat. The reason why I am mentioning poverty is that , compared to other neigbors some have cows and big land to cultivate but for us we even sometimes go to cultivate for others in order to get the food. You can also tell by looking the state in which our house is. We have small land and we cannot rely on it's produce, it requires us to rent the land when we have money to pay for, if not we cultivate that one only and continue to cultivate for others. We don't have our own cow except the one we are raising for the neigbor."

"The main challenge we are facing is poverty as you can see we don't have enough clothes, we need to be clean in our homes and we don't have money to buy so. We don't have enough food and because of that we take one meal per day. And that is a big one because no one can't work with empty stomach."

"I'm looking for money so that I buy another piece of land; approximately 50m by 100m. The main aim of this is so that I can use it for farming since my wife and I are dedicated farmers, so we find our current piece of land to be too small for farming. I require $550.natafuta pesa niongeze plot nifanye ukulima. hii ninayo haitoshi. current one is 100 by 100. to add 50 by 100 for farming. I had hoped to receive more transfers from Give Directly but since its impossible, I'll wait for my cows to reproduce then sell some. Or should I ever receive any money from other organisations, I'll use it for this purpose."

Agnes
received a $443 initial payment.
"It was around 5 pm, I was at home busy washing the children while preparing dinner for the family. This was the norm of the day before continuing with my business of selling fried fish. For all that time, my phone was on charging inside the house. Later after completing the chores, I switched on the phone. I noticed that I had received messages indicating that I received my money from GiveDirectly. I was very happy about receiving the transfer since at first, I doubted the program. I was very sure that through cash aid, our living conditions would be transformed for the better."
