"Our harvest was not good due to climate change and my child Benita and My mother in law have been sick during agriculture season and I took much time caring for them, not working in my farm and that affected our harvest. Feeding my family of 5 people is not easy nowadays"

"I do subsistence farming for a living. In the coming year and beyond, I am planning to hire a piece of land as the one I have is smaller in size. I will be hiring labour so as to save on the time wastage. I have been doing it with my two sons who are still schooling and it could take us a whole month to complete a piece of land. In addition to this, I will be opening up a new business of groceries to be operated by my wife. The business will specifically be taking care of the family's basic needs like food and clothing."

"A long-term project I have been working towards is the improvement and modernization of my house. The generosity of GiveDirectly through their transfers was the final piece of this plan that I had been waiting for. I purchased ten iron sheets and installed them in my two bedrooms with a verandah. Four goats, three female and one male, also came into play as I quickly purchased them and began breeding them. In line with my construction theme of accomplishing long-term goals, I decided to purchase a bed and mattress for myself. Finally, I am sleeping in conditions I have long desired. My wife and I have seven children, five of whom are all married and have, at least, one child each, and the youngest two are still dependents of their father and I. Needless to say, a portion of the GiveDirectly funds went to paying their tuition at Gira Primary School, needing $6 per year for my youngest and my second-youngest, who have just cleared Form 4. The funds enabled us to accomplish far more than our combined earnings from burning wood for charcoal could ever have allowed us to. After selling a sack to villagers in Mnazimoja for $5, we don't have much left over for project savings. GiveDirectly transformed our lives in a huge way. We will never be the same, which demonstrates the positive impact GiveDirectly has had on us."

"For many years, we have been living with my husband and our 6 children at my parent's home. This is against the norms of our tradition and my spouse was constantly mocked by our neighbours. I had desired to own a piece of land where we could build a structure and start our home but this was in vain due to a lack of financial resources. To actualize our longing, we spent $100 of the recent transfer to compile the payments of half an acre piece of land. Moreover, I used part of the remaining amount to purchase the required building material for the construction of a house like iron sheets and poles. Currently, I am happy with the ongoing construction activities that are taking place in our new area. I am positive that we will finally fulfil our dreams something that will instil peace of mind in our lives. Lastly, I saved $50 which will assist me in paying the school fees for my 6 children who are still in public primary school."

"I hope to enrol myself in a tailoring college in the coming year on our nearby town. My long-term goal is to start a dressmaking shop which will be my reliable source of livelihood for the family. This will aid in leaving the charcoal vending job which is laborious and led to the loss of forest cover resulting in climate change."

"For many years, I and my spouse have been living in a small, old mud-walled house which was collapsing and required constant repair. After receiving the first transfer from GiveDirectly, I started the construction of a new semi-permanent house but I did not complete it. I spent the recent transfer to complete it by purchasing 20 bags of cement, Iron sheets, and timbers and setting aside the remaining amount to pay the labour charges. At the moment, I am happy that we are living in a decent house which will no longer require frequent repairs which are very costly."

"I plan to acquire more cattle to supplement my unstable source of income, which is making and selling charcoal for $ 120 per month. My ambition is to guarantee that my children receive an education, as stipulated by the Kenyan constitution. I want to accomplish this by purchasing ten additional goats, which may quickly multiply, resulting in more cash to pay my children's school fees as well as food for a family of ten. So far, I own one goat, and I intend to utilize my subsequent transfers to purchase more goats. As a result, my children will not be forced to stay at home owing to unpaid tuition, as occurred to my seventh-grade child."

received a second payment.
"In the coming year and beyond, I hope to improve my dairy family as well as venture into crop farming. This will ensure that I have readily available feeds for my livestock and food for the family. In addition, I intend to start a small shop business at home where I will be selling a variety of products like sugar, and salt to our neighbours. This will supplement my earnings from dairy farming."
