"Subsistence farming, being my major source of livelihood has greatly been affected by the prolonged drought. This means I have to engage in alternative ventures, especially charcoal work to make ends meet. Since I have 2 children still in primary school, I find it so hard to sustain our needs at home. My job does not earn me much, say, $30 per month, an income that I get in beats. This has greatly affected my children's studies since they often miss classes. This situation has robbed away my joy because it pains me most to find myself not in a position to support my family of 4."

"As I said earlier my husband is our sole breadwinner since I do not have a job, however his earnings are not sufficient for to take care of all the needs and most times we are forced to make choices of whats important. Our house was recently blown away by the wind and we could not salvage it. We had to move into my son's sma;; house that he had built to live since our finances were not sufficient to build a new house. My hope this year is to build a house for my family since where we are staying belongs to my son and when he finishes school he will need somewhere to stay."

"I am an animal farmer and I have not been making much but I struggled to take my children through school, now I have three grow adults who are trying to make ends meet. I had taken them through school hoping they would one day return the favour and take care of me in my old age it things have gotten so tough that I cannot depend on them for everything. I had bought a plot of land and had really wanted to develop it but I did nit have enough finances so when I got GD transfers I decided I would use it for this development since my children take care of helping me get food. I know that once this structure is completed which is my goal for the year using GD transfers, I will be able to rent the shops out at $30 which will give me some income. I will also be able to take one of the four rooms and use the money I get after to put up a business."

"I started my business because I needed a source of income. I had stopped selling charcoal as now it takes quite a while before you get stumps to make charcoal. I started a business selling general groceries which has allowed me to get an income. My aim this year is to expand my business by making monthly addition to it from my GD transfers. I also believe that animals are a good way of making money. I want to be able to buy some more goats which I will trade later or trade their offsprings in case of need."
