Syprose
received a $465 third payment.
"I spent my third transfer on building 3 rooms for rental purposes for 55,000 KES, having saved 8,000 KES from my second transfer towards this purpose. The rooms are not plastered for now since I ran out of money but I expect to get tenants, and spend part of their initial rent to do plastering. This is an investment that will give support towards education for our children in future, rather than if I had spent on a different purpose which is not for income generation."

Jane
received a $463 third payment.
"My major problem has been paying school fees for my 2 children-one in a college and the other one in a secondary school and therefore when I received my third transfer, I used the whole of it for my childrens' education. This offered me a great relief that I enjoyed in life."

Juliet
received a $638 second payment.
"Since I value my children's education, the first thing I did when I received my money was to clear their school fee balance so that they could go back to school for their studies because they were sent home for school fee. I bought three bags of maize for consumption because I don't have a place for farming so the maize will keep us going. I opened a mining business with part of the transfer because previously I could help people with laundry for payment which was not enough to cater for my family. This consumed a lot of my time and I didn't have time for my children but now I'm happy I spend most of my time with them. I also renovated my house because part of it had fallen off which was so insecure."

Monica
received a $482 third payment.
"My house was lit by tin lamp which was so dim, and so I spent part of my transfer on connecting my house to electric power. I no longer have to spend money even to charge phone like before. My son also sat his secondary education back in 2004, but he had not taken his certificate because of the pending fees arrears he owed the school, so some money I spent on clearing the arrears and now he has the certificate. The remaining I spent on food for my family consumption."

Helida
received a $462 third payment.
"I spent my third on a tailoring machine for 10,000 KES and paid a Fee of 3,000 KES to re-train myself and sharpen my tailoring skills. I had been trained for 6 months only and earned basic skills before getting married then I discontinued. I always wanted to resume my training but my husband had no money. I have been dreaming of the time when I would complete my training and become a professional. I thank GD for providing an opportunity for me, even after a lapse of 7 years. After buying the machine, I attached myself to a Professional Tailor that I know, who guides me on a daily basis. Since I am not a beginner, I even get to serve some of our clients, and I am paid 200 KES per day. I am very thankful because I am a Trainee but at the same time I earn. I have even put on weight and my family feeds better than before, you should come see the difference in our appearance. I also bought a heifer for 15,000 KES that will serve as my seed to be multiplied towards the education of our children in the near future."

Florence
received a $463 third payment.
"I spent my third transfer on Depositing 30,000 KES in a Bank towards our child's Secondary education since he just sat his KCPE examination. Normally we grow vegetables near the river for sale but from time to time the River floods and washes it away and so it is not a reliable source of livelihood yet we need to educate our child and so GD Grants came to us quite timely. I also started a small Income generating activity where I make chapati and green grams outside a shop at the Market centre. The business is picking since in just 2 months my initial working capital has grown from 4,000 KES to 6,000 KES, and I feel rather excited."

"I used the last transfer to pay school fees for my daughter in college and my son and daughter in high school I did this to help them continue with their education then I bought livestock a cow and a sheep to rear, lastly I bought sand and paid the builders to plaster the floor and walls of my house I did this because jiggers were many and to prevent the infestation of jiggers plastering was the solution."
