Mike
received a $23 twelfth payment.
"My new goal is to save at least KES1000 every month from the transfers to start poultry keeping. Starting this poultry farming will enable me to pay school fees for my children who are yet to join secondary education and meet other family needs in the future."

Josephat
received a $368 second payment.
"I spent my recent transfer to buy a machine where children play. This is because the machine is upgraded compared to the one I had in the past. Some parents have always been asking me to buy the new machine since it has more games compared to the old one. Currently, I have so many children coming to play hence more income. I also used part of my transfer to pay school fees for my sister. This is because the money she gets from the Higher Education Loans Board is not enough to pay her school fees and cater for her basic needs."

Morine
received a $23 twelfth payment.
"My life is currently different from how it was in that, I am able to give a helping a hand to my needy aunt. Previously, I could not have managed to chip in my aunt's school fee because I used to depend on selling charcoal which could not be enough even to take care of my needs fully. I am glad that she did not have to miss on education because of lack of money."

"My biggest hardship is financial instability. My husband earns so little from his water vending business and yet he is the sole breadwinner to the family. As parents, we value education and so seeing our children drop out after primary school has been so painful. We feel like we have failed a whole generation. If only we had money, life would be so different for them."

"My proudest moment would be when I see all my children educated and living their best lives possible without struggling financially. This I intend to achieve through expanding my catering business; building a stall, increasing my stock of food items and buying an internet enabled smartphone so I can take advantage of social media as a marketing tool for my business. I will also be able to employ atleast two people to assist me when I get booked for events such as weddings and burials. With the rest of the money I will purchase livestock specifically goats since they are more drought resistant compared to cows. This will help me ensure my children stay in school because I will now be able to pay for their education consistently. "

"Since I got married 12 years ago, I have had to part with 1500 KES every month to meet the cost of a liter of milk that I buy every day. Receiving this money means I am going to become a cow owner and milk supplier for the first time in my life. I intend to use my first transfer to buy two milking cows to provide milk for domestic consumption and sale of surplus. This means I will be in a position to save money that would otherwise have gone to milk purchases and proceeds from the new venture to fend for my three children's education and colossal household needs. Moreover upon receiving my second transfer, my plan is to purchase a second hand motorcycle to help me in the efficiency of my charcoal selling business from one point to another. My ambition is to place my family out of poverty one year on from now. Thank you GiveDirectly. "

"My new goal for the next four months is to buy two more goats. Goats increase in number within a short period of time. I will sell them after they have increased in number and use the money to buy a cow. I will sell these cows after they have increased in number and use the money to buy a plot. I have a daughter born outside of wedlock and if I get married, she will stay with my parents according to our tradition. This plot will act as my investment for her as I always want to see her happy. I am also planning to be saving my salary so that I will later use them to start a shop business. this will act as my source of income which I will use to support my parents and my daughter's education."
