How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different because I managed to clear my child's school fee balance. Beforehand, he used to be sent home due to failure to clear the outstanding balance in time. Give Directly enabled me to clear the school fees arrears for my child who sat for his exams successfully and we hoping that he passes.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
They have changed our lives in our village. People had thatched houses but due to the transfers they received from GiveDirectly, they have built iron-roofed houses. They have also changed my life as I managed to buy building materials like iron sheets, wire mesh, nails and plywood to use in building a chicken pen to protect my poultry against stray animals. I am now confident that my poultry will thrive and I will sell them to get money for family upkeep. We can also eat nutritious food i.e chicken.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received this transfer, I spent the transfer on paying the school for my child who was sent away from school to clear the outstanding balance. I bought materials i.e. iron sheets, nails, plywood, wire mesh and timber to build a chicken pen to protect the poultry from straying or from stray animals. This is my main source of income. I sell the poultry to get money for my family upkeep. I also bought shoes and clothes for my children and me using part of the transfer. I also bought food for the family.
