How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because we have acquired two cows. We had sold all the cattle that we had on educating our children.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in the way it allows recipients to choose whatever they want to do with their transfers. This gave me maximum freedom to prioritize my needs and demands. Moreover, I like the way GiveDirectly educates its target clients to ensure the safety and security of the recipients and their transfers. Still, I adore the direct transfer of funds from the firm to the recipients. This ensures that most of the money from the donors land at the recipients. Thus, I find nothing that the firm has not done well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spend my second transfer as follows: a. 15000 KES on purchasing a cow that I am keeping b. 5000 KES on acquiring maize for consumption by my family c. 4000 KES a son who was seeking employment d. 3000 KES on paying fee arrears for one of my sons to secure his secondary school certificate e. 3000 KES on buying clothes for my children f. 3000 KES on acquiring more utensils for my family g. 3000 KES on buying milk that we collected over an extended period for use by my family h. 3000 KES on settling a debt that we had after obtaining some services from one of our neighbors i. 4000 KES on buying clothes for my husband j. 4000 KES given to my four daughters as gift k. 6000 KES on acquiring sugar, maize, vegetables and tea leaves that we consumped.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily is the cow that I bought to replace the one I had sold. It has always been my goal to have a cow again after selling what I had to meet the high demand for my children school fee and household needs. I depend on farming and the little I get from I spent on mainly school fee and other on household basic needs. My farming income being to little I had been forced to sell the cows I had to meet the rising demands. I have been keeping my neighbor's cow and it has help in providing for my family but since but it has been add to use as a source funds. I currently see what I bought as a growing asset and it gives me a security of my household needs more of it being school fee for children in various secondary school.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was some minutes past 5 AM when I was awoken by an income message notification on my phone. I reluctantly checked the message and to my surprise, it was a confirmation message that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was so happy and went ahead to wake my husband inform of the good new. We were both so happy and thankful to GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used part of the transfer to buy a cow to replace the one I had sold. It has always been my goal to have a cow after selling what I had to meet the high demand for my children school fee and household needs. I depend on farming and the little I get from I spent on mainly school fee and other on household basic needs. I spent part of it to build a kitchen. I have lived an uncomfortable life with my family even though I have an iron-roofed house and a hut. We use the hut as a kitchen but it has been hard since it has acted as our kitchen, living room for my children and I also use it to keep my goats during the night. The hut itself is too old and has started leaking to make it worst the drought in our area has made it hard for me to repair it since we can not find more grass to repair and the goats make it filthy and unpleasing to live in. I also spent part of it to on family clothing to add to the few we had.
