How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I sleep comfortably on a nice bed courtesy of GiveDirectly. I eat well and drink tea like a normal human being compared to the past when I had to toil and look for manual labour so as to get food. Life was very difficult and unpredictable.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well to help the vulnerable and extremely poor people by sending them cash transfers. GiveDirectly has only done well so far in our community.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I bought a cow worth UGX 400000 and mattress worth UGX 115000. I spent some money on harvesting groundnuts. The balance of UGX 850000 will be spent on food and other emergencies.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My daily life's biggest difference is the proper feeding and improved health I get since I am able to afford a balanced diet and timely medication. Prior to getting this transfer, feeding and proper treatment were my greatest challenge. If I ever got sick, I had to wait going to hospital since I had no means to treatment and I could wait for over a week, month or a times get well without getting treatment. This kept illnesses to pile up. Therefore, getting this money has made me extremely happy and my daily life in this old age worth living.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money, I felt so happy that I made joyous noise and thanked God for this money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to buy some house hold items like mattress, bed sheets. I then bought a cow at Ugx 400000. I am saving up Ugx 800000 that I will use as need arises. I bought some food to feed my self.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means buying a cow that will act as an Income generating activity for me. When it multiplies, I will sell some to help solve family problems. I will buy beddings because the ones I have now are old hence they are worn out.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is after lunch when I have eaten and now reluxing with my neighbours at the home stead. That refreshes me and puts a smile on my face.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Feeding is my biggest hardship because I can not cultivate in a large plot of land. I am old and it makes it very difficult for me to support my self fully.
