Livestock farming is lucrative farming in my community. Most families rely on rearing and keeping of goats to provide for the family. When I receive my transfers, I will buy twenty goats and kickstart business. This will cost $470 of the transfers from GiveDirectly. I am happy that in one year my goats will have multiplied and earn me a profit. Two months ago, a well-wisher drilled a borehole in my village. The borehole has been providing us with water for domestic use. When I receive my transfers from GiveDirectly, I will spend $150 of the transfers to buy conduit pipes to supply the water to my household.
What is the happiest part of your day?
We are living in the neighborhood Ngaratuko sub location where banditry and cattle rustling has been common for decades. This made us live in fear of being attacked. I am happy that for the last four months we have never recorded or heard any incident of attack. This gave us time to work peacefully and provide for our family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We are living in a semi-arid area and this has been the main source of our family problems. The land here is not arable and it is characterized by harsh climatic conditions. This area is therefore not favourable for crop production. Life is difficult since we rely on buying food from the market. Sometimes food is sold at an exorbitant price. We do not have a reliable source of family income and it posts a major challenge to us. We are struggling to put food on the table for my family of four.
