How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a heifer and three goats. I have always wished to own a livestock project but I didn't had the money. I do small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption. I didn't had savings to enable me start this project. When I received the second transfer I decided to invest on this livestock project. When my dairy cow reproduce in the next few months I will be able to get enough milk for my family and sell the surplus at the market to earn an income to me other basic household needs. Goats rearing project is the best investment because a goat can give birth twice per year. Hence it can multiple faster. I will sell them and buy another dairy cow. I will also be in a position to pay school fees for my grandchild. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard and enabled us livestock.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 20,000 of the second transfer on purchasing a heifer. and KES 15000 to purchase three goats. This is the best investment that I have started. I also used some amount on renovating my house to look better than before. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Receiving the transfer was a great deal of excitement to me. It came after failing to receive with the first group I was enrolled with, I had to live in fear when the dates to receive were approaching even after a lot of assurances from the agents whom I was calling, I still could tense as I wait. This brought excitement when it finally landed in my account assuring me that all my fields will be well fenced.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the simplified livestock rearing practice at the moment. After fencing every part of my field, this has drastically cut the cost of labor as I don't need a herdsman anymore. It is finally bringing back the peace I had with the neighbors as there is no more casing with them over the destruction made by the goats on their crops.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving the first transfer, I dedicated a large portion of the transfer to fencing a grazing field for my livestock. I obtained barbed wired, poles, and droppers which together with transport and labor cost around 40000KES. I had to ensure that it is well fenced since I had been struggling with the goats and sheep I am currently keeping. They had been invading neighbors' farms destroying their crops since it has been hard at my age to chase them around. With the remaining amount, I also added two sheep and some foodstuff for the household.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money mean an improved fence in our compound. My husband has been struggling herding our cattle yet he is getting old. My intention is to fence our compound and paddock where our cattle graze and give my husband ample time to rest. Am projecting to use approximately Ksh 20,000 to complete the whole task something that I have yearning to accomplish in my life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Since I am a housewife, I spend the entire day doing the normal household chores such as cleaning dishes, cooking, washing clothes and taking care of my poultry. Keeping in mind that I am getting, such chores is tiresome and thus having time to rest with my husband in the evening is the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraints has been the biggest hardship I have faced in life. My husband and I are getting old and feeble to fend for our family. We have been unable to harvest enough maize in our 2acre land and sell the surplus due to unfavourable weather condition. Due to this, we have been harvesting approximately 12 bags in total thus unable to raise money to fence our compound and give our my husband time to rest.
