How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
When it comes to farming maize, we have faced several significant difficulties over the years. Weather patterns have been changing, which has resulted in a decrease in the production of maize. I therefore intend to launch a dairy business to supplement our income and help me provide for the family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well giving us transfer. The improvements in my village are clearly visible thanks to the donations made through GiveDirectly. People are not as likely to go hungry as they once were. Furthermore, if not for the transfer, I doubt whether I would have been able to build an extra house that soon. I have not observed anything that the organization should improve.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I built myself a nicer dwelling with a timber wall using £400 of the transfer. I used to live in our one-bedroom mud- walled house with my fast-growing children. Since the kids were getting close to being teenagers, I felt like we needed some privacy as parents, as this wasn't very comfortable. I'm happy that it was successful, and I've left the old house for them while relocating to the new one that I build using GD transfers. They now have ample room to study while also being comfortable. Additionally, I utilized the remaining amount to buy food to feed my family of five.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I recall being at a ceremony in my neighbourhood when I received my transfer. My phone began to ring. When I checked the message, I discovered that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was overjoyed with the wonderful gift that had come my way.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to construct a decent home for my children. I could have built it sooner, but due to financial constraints, I was unable to do so. I am overjoyed that this dream has finally come true. Second, I was able to purchase adequate clothing and food for my children. I will be eternally grateful for the wonderful gift that transformed my life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My main challenge has been that the house I am living in is small, even though my children are all grown. This meant they needed their own space. Due to financial constraints, this was not possible. My husband and I are both farmers, and we have three children. When GiveDirectly promised that I would receive my money. I knew this was the Golden opportunity I had been looking for. As a result, I spent $40 on the construction. The remainder was then spent on food. I am grateful for the help that has brought so much blessing into our lives because this is a huge milestone that would not have been possible without financial support.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
We would like to invest it first in our children through payment of school fees. My eldest son is joining high school and it is so good that he has joined at a time when these transfers are coming our way. Honestly I don't know where we would have gotten enough money to help him transition smoothly maybe my husband would have figured it out but this a relief. I hope also to invest the remaining in building a 2 roomed house because we'll soon need a bigger house as our children start their teenage years we need to have enough space to accommodate all of us with all the privacy that's needed.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I feel am so lucky to be living in a rural area at the moment when living conditions are worsening in urban areas due to the state of the economy in our country. Life is much more simpler here and it gives me a lot of happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The most challenging thing at the moment is the rising cost of living. It affects us more because we do not have a good source of income. We only depend on livestock farming to meet our needs. This kind of farming is affected by prolonged drought and it is a common occurrence in this area. Once the dry spell starts milk production also goes down. This affects our $20 monthly income from this venture. At that moment we have to look for casual jobs around to supplement our income and it is not easy to come by these jobs.
