How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I want to ensure that I save the money from the small business that I do and from the sales of my farm produce to be able to pay school fees for my son who joined form one this year. I would wish to ensure that he gets the best education.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Most of the people in our community spent the transfer well this is because the were well-trained and informed on the best ways the can safeguard their money and invest it. I do not find anything that was not done well in my area.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent $400 on purchasing a piece of land. This was always my wish since I lived on a small piece of land and that would limit my dairy-keeping project. I depend on small scales farming and dairy keeping. The income that I would get through this was so small and I was not able to pay the school fees and at the same time purchase land. When I received the transfer from giveDirectly I felt so happy because this was an opportunity to buy land. Currently, I have spacious land and I do my farming and other activities well unlike before. The remaining amount of money I paid school fees for my son who joined form one this year. This would have been a big challenge for me since I had no other source of income to get the money. I am so grateful because I was able to pay on time and my son now is studying well. This gave me a piece of mind to do my daily activities without any stress.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so much happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I had just arrived home and it was around 6:00 pm and upon checking I had surely received money from GiveDirectly. I shared the good news with some of my close family members who were so elated as well.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the investment that I made. Right now I have one dairy cow and I feel so much happy to have one already. This is one of the main economic activity that we engage in here and I am sure that this is going to help me a great deal in the near future.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 40000 to buy a dairy cow and used the remaining amount to buy food and clothes for my family. I chose to buy a dairy cow since I saw this as an investment that will help me in future to make ends meet and even pay school fees as well as meet other expenses that may come my way.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will be a major boost for us. Recently our only cow that was producing 3 liters per day died after a short illness. It pained us to the core and broke our hearts because it was a source of livelihood for our family. We are now buying a liter of milk for our household consumption. It is expensive for us and sometimes we do not afford it. One liter of milk costs KES 60, we struggle to buy just enough to prepare morning tea unlike before when we could consume some and sell the surplus, my children are worried since they no longer enjoy the milk. This help came at the perfect time, it ignited our hope of owning another cow which could have been impossible at the moment because of financial constraints. We intend to purchase a dairy cow worth KES 40000 and use the rest of the money to build a house for our son who underwent an initiation ceremony in April.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My firstborn son underwent circumcision last month in April. It was a momentous period for our family, it was our joy to see our boy transitioning to manhood. It is quite an achievement and fulfilling to have seen him grow from childhood to adulthood. We held a passing out ceremony in our home together with our family members to celebrate him
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Life has been difficult especially recently when the cost of commodities went up. We were hard hit ,more so, when our dairy cow died further worsening the bad situation. Financial constraint is the major problem that we are facing currently. The situation has been so biting and we are unhappy with our current state. It has been hope against hope of what the next day brings, life is full of uncertainties.
