How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I have made a major step in life. First, I have been able to build a spacious house for my family that can accommodate us comfortably. Also, my family now feeds well unlike before. The transfer enabled me to do some timely cultivation and used hybrid seeds and this led to increased production that I am optimistic that it will last us till next harvesting season.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by giving us the financial aid that enabled us to uplift our lives and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
Initiation 20000, food 15000, barbed wire 3000, debt 3000, When I received my second transfer, I spent some amount to buy food for my family and a barbed wire to use in fencing my compound and make it more secure. Also, I spent some amount to pay registration fee and food expenses for my son who had undergone initiation rite and also a home welcoming ceremony for him.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have built a better house for my family. We used to live in a small grassed thatched house which was hardly enough to accommodate all of us comfortable. During the rainy seasons, we did not enjoy the peace that comes with having a roof over your head since that house had its roof leaking and often exposed us to the harsh climatic conditions that come with cold weather and diseases. This often left me feeling bad and dejected. I felt like I had failed in one of the most pertinent responsibilities of providing good shelter for my family. My children used to sleep in my neighbor's house something which was so embarrassing and a threat to their security especially in the night when they were walking to a sleepover. They were also very much inconvenienced in their studies especially when they had homework since they could hardly find time to do it before they move to the neighbor's place for sleep. It was also embarrassing whenever we had visitors as most of the time they would excuse themselves to be away from a little earlier since they were uncomfortable staying any longer. Currently, I have a good house and I can host them comfortably without any worries. My children can also pursue their studies without any disturbance and this gives me much joy as a parent as I look forward to improvement in their marks. Our living standards have just changed for the better and I cannot stop thanking GiveDirectly for the support that I received from them.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy when I received the money from GiveDirectly. My happiness was beyond measure since I had never received such an amount of money before. I remember very well it was early in the morning that day when I heard my neighbors celebrating and I kept wondering what it was they were excited about until one of them called me and asked me to check my phone. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the message from GiveDirectly telling me that I had just received the money that I had been promised. My family was equally happy because it was then that we knew the dream of building a new house was finally going to be realized.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer to build a better and spacious house for my family. The house we were staying in before was too small for us as a family and a little more uncomfortable for a growing family like ours. I had always wished that I could build a better house but the little income that I get from the casual jobs that I engage in could not allow me to build one yet. I also used part of the money to buy food and other basic household needs for family-like clothes. I still have got some money with me which I am planning to buy a dairy cow with. We have all along been buying milk which has proven to be very expensive to us. Once I buy this cow then I will be able to divert the money that would otherwise have been used to buy milk into other meaningful family investments that will improve the living standards of my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I live in a small hut which I share with my chicken.I have always dreamt of keeping chicken in large scale for commercial purposes ie sale of eggs that is why I decided to share my small house with them since I have not been able to build a poultry house. When I heard about Givedirectly transfers,I was elated because I knew that my dream of building a good poultry house and increasing the number of chicken will be made a reality.Receiving this money also means that I will be able to build an iron-roofed house so that my current house will serve as a kitchen
What is the happiest part of your day?
After my children have had breakfast and left for school,I begin my daily routine on people's farms. There,I mostly do weeding, planting or sometimes harvesting depending on the season. In the afternoon,I am done for the day and head back home with the day's wage.At this time,I am happy that I will be able to provide for my family for this particular day. This is the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Life as a single mother is often very difficult.Particularly for me,I have struggled a lot to be able to provide for the daily needs of my four children.Providing for all their needs as well as paying for their studies takes a huge toll on me given that I am just a casual labourer without any reliable source of income. This is the biggest hardship I have faced
