What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 2000 of my recent transfer to seek medical assistance for myself. I have been suffering from a stomach problem for a very long time. I use the transfer to seek advance treatment and after performing several tests it was severe stomach ulcers. I thank God that through the transfer, I was able to get the right medication and now I am feeling better. With the remaining amount, I used KES 1000 to purchase foodstuffs. I was instructed by the doctor to be mindful and selective in terms of the food that I choose to eat. I am planning to use my next transfer to renovate my house that is about to fall. This will restore the happiness that I had been missing due go to the bad conditions of my shelter.

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
It is doing a great by giving us a form of financial freedom through the funds which help a lot because for instance I do not have a job and so most times I used to rely o my children and they get money occasionally so through this program I have managed to reduce the financial burden on my children and I too can now assist them as well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After I received the money, I wanted to save some of it but my child came to me to seek assistance in paying school fees for two of their children who had been chased from school due to the fact that they had not paid their fees, and so I could not resist but come to my sons aid because he also struggled to make ends meet and at the times I had the money to help. So I paid KES 1,500 for the two of them and they managed to come back and continue with their studies.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the message that I had received the money at 10 am. I was sitting outside my house. I was deep in thoughts on what I was going to do once my food is finished. I was getting stressed. When I received the message I called a neighbor who confirmed to me that I had indeed received the money. I was very delighted and very happy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The money has made a big difference in my life in that I was able to buy food for myself and I am now very happy that I have plenty of food in my house to last me a couple of weeks to come. Thank you so much.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am getting old day by day and I do not find it for myself. I depend heavily on my grandson to send me money so that I can be able to buy food and other things that I need. The challenge is that my grandson does not have a permanent job and depends heavily on manual jobs. Sometimes he does send me money and at times not and these are the challenging days for me. So when I received the money I straight away decided to spend the whole amount of KSH 1200 on buying food for my family. I chose to do that since my food stock was finishing and my grandson had not yet sent me money.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Wish to make strong pillars for my house. Additionally, I have lived with an interest in livestock keeping. The boring moments spent just sitting could have been spent meaningful as I shepherd the livestock. Therefore, I purpose to buy goats. With 6000KES of my transfers, I can have three goats for a start.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I love the evenings because it is when I have something to bite without a doubt.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Besides being old and sickly, I often go without meals. I rely on my lastborn son who works as a casual laborer in town. He has a family of seven. Most of the cash he sends is usually channeled to pay school fees. Breakfast is not a norm. The lack of enough and nutritious food has contributed a lot to my sickly life.
