My new goal is to build another house for myself. I still have some money saved that I plan to use in building the house. I have already bought gravel. I am just still waiting for my son who was supposed to look for a mason and buy other materials for construction. He has been busy taking care of his child who fell ill and hence he has not had time to do so. I want to build another house because the one that I am living in right now has grown old and is about to collapse. I was not able to build another before because I did not have the money. I am old and I am no longer able to do a lot of work. I usually grow some vegetables in the kitchen garden for subsistence use and I have one cow that I am rearing. I usually sell some of the milk that I get from the cow and I use the money in paying school fees for a child who is in secondary school. My children at times support me by buying for me food and other household necessities.

GiveDirectly did well when they thought of helping the needy in society. They have managed to uplift their lives with the transfers that they are sending to them. They have been able to make many developments such as building new houses that are roofed with iron sheets, buying livestock, and many more. Their lives are hence not the same as before. I do not see anything that they need to change.

I spent KES 12000 from the second transfer money on paying school fees for the child that I am living with. I also spent another KES 2000 on treating the child. He had fallen ill the first time when I was still having the first transfer and I spent some money treating him. He fell ill again and hence I took him back to the hospital. I am glad that he is now well and he has managed to resume his studies. Apart from the above, I also bought school shoes for the child and food with part of the money. I still have some amount saved, about KES 20000 that I plan to use in building another house. I want to build another house because the one that I currently live has grown old and is about to collapse. I am thus glad that I will be able to fulfill this goal that I have been having for quite a long time. I also managed to clear school fees for the whole term for the child. I hence do not owe the school anything at the moment and this makes me happy. We also have food to eat and hence we are grateful to GiveDirectly for everything they have done to us.

It was around 10 am when I heard my phone ringing and since I was at home relaxing after having my breakfast, I decided to go to one of my son's houses and requested him to help me check who had called me at that time. Upon going through my phone, he informed me that it was a message indicating that I had received my transfer. I became so happy on hearing this and I started ululating to celebrate the good news that had just come in.

I have been able to pay school fees for my grandchildren and also buy them school shoes and this makes my life different. I have been supporting them financially since their mother is a single parent and has no stable source of income. It usually gladdens my heart when I think how bright their future will be when they finally finish college and secure their dream jobs. Even though I might not be with them to celebrate this milestone, I am glad that I will have contributed to their success in one way or another.

Upon receiving my transfer, I spent KES 12000 to pay school fees for my grandchildren in secondary school since I have been supporting them as they stay with me. I still have KES 28000 that I am planning to use on my daily expenses and in case of an emergency. In addition, I spent KES 14000 on food, utensils, and clothes for my family. I am glad that GiveDirectly enabled me to achieve these using the transfers.
