How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
If I could not have received the money from give directly I could not have managed to pay school fee for my grandchildren and I am very sure they could have dropped out of school.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion give directly did a very good think by dealing with people directly and not involving authorities and this is some thing which is very unique because it has never happen in our village. I am also greatfull being that they gave us a non refundable money which is very rear.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the whole of the transfer to pay schools fee for my two grandchildren who are in secondary school. I was left with my two grandchildren after their parents past on, I have been paying their school fee since then and it has not been a bed of roses because I do not have any stable source of income. I am doing a business of selling vegetables that can not catter for my family expenditure and at the same time pay their fee. So when I received the money I was very happy and i managed to cleared all their school fee arrears, my grandchildren are now in school learning like other students after every body new that they will drop out of school because of the arrears. Thanks to give directly for saving me from alot of stress and pressure.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
After the death of my two sons, I have been taking care of their children being that one wife left and the other one died too. I have been struggling to make ends meet because I only depend on small-scale farming which hardly provide enough for food. Since my grandchildren had come of age and needed privacy, I decided to construct a house which will serve as a kitchen and spending place for my them. Since I was not in good financial status, I only constructed a grass thatched house which has served them well for two years now. It's unfortunate the roof started leaking three months ago and during the rainy seasons, my granchildren would come to sleep in my living room since the leaking of the roof was unbearable. When I recived this transfer, I thought of the well-being of my grandchildren. I bought iron sheets, timber and nails which I have since used to replace the grass thatched roof so that they can sleep in peace. I feel at peace for sacrificing my comfortability for them.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
In my old age, I never knew I could get such amount of money. My children who could provide for me are all dead. My life is dependant of my small-scale farming which I do for survival. When I received the money and it was confirmed to me by my grandson, I celebrated by singing and appreciating God for Give Directly.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to buy three sheep. I have always desired to own a sheep but due to my low income from farming, I have not been able to have them. When I received this transfer, this was one of my key accomplishments I wanted to do with part of the money. This will also be inheritance for my grandchildren. The rest of the transfer, I used to buy building materials such as iron sheets, timber and nails which I have already used to build a new kitchen. The one I had earlier was grass thatched and the roof was leaking yet my grandchildren were sleeping there. This was really uncomfortable for them and I thank God with help from GD, I was able to provide good shelter for them.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I shall be able to pay fees to my grandchildren and college fees to one of them who have been doing odd jobs after I struggled to pay his frees through to high school. Givedirectly transfer has made me feel like the dreams I had for my family is restored and the second transfer will help me in buying a generator that I would use to pump water to my vegetables so that I be able to farm all year round unlike last year that dry season saw all my vegetables dry up.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is usually in the evening when all my grandchildren are back and we are settle to share a meal as a family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced was losing my only son who was the breadwinner in the family, he left young children who have a lot of school fees to be paid and the little vegetables that I grow can hardly produce enough money to meet our costs.
