How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My children education and daily household needs had been my priorities among my family needs thus I was just forced to live in my mud-wall grass thatched house and frequently smear it to reduce the dust and prevent cracks that had ocuured every due to the old age of my house. Building another was dresm that I couldn't realize due to limited resources. The biggest difference in my daily life is being able to renovate my house. I currently live under decent iron roofed house courtesy of GiveDirectly. I feel relaxed and so happy with such a decent house that I couldn't have done it on my own.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well in uplifting our lives which were miserable before enrollment. We have been able to provide for our families effectively, purchasing livestock as assets and most importantly, building better iron-roofed houses thus enjoying good shelter. I do not see anything that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I had build my own house part of my first transfer but I couldn't build one for my children since the resources was not enough. When I received my second transfer, I took KES15000 to build a house. I feel so good when I see them happy in their new house. I took another KES 20000 to pay school fees for my children. It is my happiness to see them in school knowing that this their best way to build their future. In addition, I used KES5000 on clothing and the remaining amount I spent on my households daily needs.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that my family lives in our newly built house comfortably. At the same time, with the house being spacious enough we also have the privacy we need. Thanks to GiveDirectly for financing my long desired dream which used to seem impossible due to lack of money.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 2 o'clock in the morning when I received a message notification on my phone. Since I was awake attending to my newborn baby at that time, I decided to check and know who the sender was. I became so happy at that moment when I realized GiveDirectly had sent me the money because I knew that with the money, I would be able to achieve my dreams that seemed impossible before.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent the larger part of my first transfer to buy building materials such as timbers, nails, iron sheets and I also paid workers to build for me a new beautiful spacious house and a small kitchen as well that I am staying in comfortably. I used the remaining amount to buy food and clothes for my family members.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means i will be able to build my own house since i inherrited the small hut i live in from my parents when they died. I am also happy since i will be able to buy a dairy cow which will in turn help me financially since i will be able to sell milk as well as use some to feed my children
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening after tedious day of struggling to get food for my children. Seeing my children enjoying their evening meal gives me more strength to work harder the following day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraints is the biggest hardship i am facing in life. I am a single mother of seven yet i do not have a stable source of income. I struggle alot to meet the needs of my family by engaging in casual labour which involves working in peoples farms and the money i earn is barely enough to cater for the needs of my family.
