How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am currently building a 3 bed room apartment that will be completed soon. With this transfer that I have just received, I am going to invest bulk of my money into agriculture by making a big rice and plantain farm. The other portion of my transfer will be used to buy building materials and complete my house. GD transfer has given me hope for the future. I am so satisfied with this project.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has been doing quite well with the entire program from enrolment stage up to the time I started receiving transfer and beyond. Every aspect of this project initiated by GD is so unique and incomparable to other NGOs I have known over the years. I see nothing that GiveDirectly is not doing so well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My primary objective right now is to complete my house and also invest in agriculture. Hence, when I received my transfer from GiveDirectly, I will buy three(3) bundles of 14 gauge zinc for $27,300LD. I will also pay workers to rip wood for the roof of my house. Finally, I will use my balance transfer to secure a huge parcel of land for my rice and plantain farm.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Recently, life has been very difficult for me and my family. Farm work has been the order of the day. I could hardly feed my family and sending my children to school was almost impossible. But on a faithful day, at about 7: 30am., I was sitting right at the front of my house in James Town when I received my transfer from GiveDirectly. At that moment, I felt an unspeakable joy within my heart and started shouting the name GiveDirectly throughout the town. I knew very well that I could pay my children school fees and also gather enough seeds to invest in agriculture/ farming. This transfer has brought a major relief in my daily life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
It has been a major challenge to register my children in school due to very limited finances. Income from working on the farm daily was very low. This could not allow me to work on most of my top priorities such as sending my children to school and expanding my farm. However, GiveDirectly money transfer has allowed me fulfilled all of my priorities at once. This transfer has also provided me a means of acquiring additional source of income from rent. Meanwhile, registering my children in school, expanding my farm, and being able to generate income through rent has been the biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving transfer from GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of my recent transfer on registering my children in school for this academic year 2021/2022. Similarly, part of the money was used to buy different kinds of seeds for agriculture purpose. Nevertheless , I saved the balance money to renovate my house and put two of the four rooms in rent. Proceeds from renting the two rooms will be used to address my family's basic needs. With this problem solving transfer from GiveDirectly, my life has become stress free and I'm so much delighted.
