I have passion in selling ladies outfits. In the coming year and beyond, I am planning to expand my business in all the nearby markets so as to attract high profits. I will also be employing workers to take care of the businesses as it will be overwhelming due to high demand. In my opinion, what GiveDirectly does well in this program is that we receive the transfers in lumpsum amounts. This helps in planning as one is in a position to do something huge as compared to when the transfers are given in small instalments. Another thing that GiveDirectly does well is that the unlearned recipients are taught how to use mpesa. This has reduced the number of theft cases in the community as most of us managed to change our pins to a more secure code. What needs to be done differently is enrolling all the individuals in the household to avoid household conflict. During enrollment, those individuals who did not have responsibilities by then were left out of the program yet these are the same people who steal from their old and vulnerable parents. Another thing that needs to be done differently is enrolling all the communities in a specific village for uniformity purposes and this will prevent too many complaints coming from the communities that are left out during the registration to the programs.

I used the transfers to pay for school fees of my kids who are in secondary school. Before the transfers my children were in and out of the school and they almost dropped out of school due to lack of school fees. I was unable to realise the goal due to financial constraints. I am now able to save up money that I used to spend on milk daily hence I am contented that I was able to achieve my dream in a short period, I am so thankful for the support that uplifted our lives amazingly.

The transfer from GiveDirectly came at the time when I had the urge of starting a dairy farming and a goat rearing project. I knew that I would be able to kickstart a goat rearing project with my initial transfer. This has been my desire for a while now but I was unable to realise it due to financial constraints. I work at the county councils, and I am married and blessed with a child. Therefore upon the receipt of my initial transfer, I used KES 20,000 in implementing the goat project. I then used KES 25,000 to purchase a dairy cow, Lastly, I used the remaining amount on clothes and foodstuffs. I am so happy and grateful that I was able to accomplish a lot in a short period.
