Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was very excited. I got the cash transfer message at around 4am in the morning, I woke up and show the message to my wife. We started making plans right away that we ended up getting out of the bedroom around 8am which was unusually for us.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My life has changed so much. As a man, I am suppose to be a provider to the family but somehow I was failing my duties. We had no food, beddings and shelter. I tried so had to do piece work on farms but the payment was so little that it only allows us to buy food to take us for two days. At times I could work in exchange of clothes for my family. In short, life was very hard. The coming in of GD night nto the village has given me an opportunity to provide for my family in the best way possible. I have started a small business with the transfer and I was able to buy basic needs for my family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought 4 bags of maize, mattress, beddings, irons sheets and clothes

What does receiving this money mean to you?
The means alot to me and my wife, i have always wanted to build a decent house because i admire some other people who live in their decent houses. I will also buy beddings and food, i would like to buy bags of maize because we did not harvest enough maize during last year's growing season because our farm was flooded so the maize did not do well.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am mostly happy in the evening when i have found money and i have eaten food that day with my wife.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I depend on short term contracts in order to find money to buy food and some other basic needs. And it is so difficult to find such works especially during this rainy season when people are planting. Nowadays i have to walk long distance to find work and i leave my wife alone at home the whole day with no food until i come back.
