How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I would have not received the transfers from GiveDirectly in that from the transfers, I bought sharp cutter machine to help me acquire feeds for my dairy cow. Nowadays, it feeds well because I am able to get for it sufficient feed hence it has been producing twice the quantity of milk unlike before when I could only get milk for my household's consumption. I usually get extra milk for sales hence we are able to raise some additional income to support our family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well in supporting people in great needs through the the transfers it sends directly to its intended beneficiaries without involving any middleman. Through this, all the deserving individuals have been enrolled in its program successfully. There has been no form of favoritism or corruption related cases witnessed at any stage of GiveDirectly's operations in our area. I have never seen anything GiveDirectly does not well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on paying medical bills for my wife who by then was seriously sick and had been admitted in the hospital for five days. Seeing her walking out of the hospital compound strong and healthy made me feel more happy. Before the transfer, I was unsettled because I was not very sure of where I could raise money to settle the hospital bills. Secondly, I spent part of the transfer on paying schools fees for my child who was in secondary school by then. I had some accumulated arrears which I was much worried about on how I would clear before they closed for the holiday and I always desire him to study hard and support us in our old age. Lastly, I spent the rest of the transfer on repaying a loan which had bothered me for the past one month preceding the day transfers were sent, this had made me feel some peace within me. It therefore, saved me from embarrassment my creditor was about to subject me to.
