How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
A lot has been happening in my life but the fact that I now have a spacious house makes the biggest difference in my life. Previously, I used to stay in a bad condition house which was also very small therefore some of my children had to stay at their friend's house. Since I solely depended on casual jobs and the little I could earn was not even enough to renovate my house. After getting the transfers I had to prioritize the same. I now feel complete and proud like the rest courtesy of GiveDictly. Aso through the dairy cow, I have started getting plenty of milk and my children are now benefiting. Taking the daily milk has made them healthier and with the remaining liters, I have been selling them to my neighbors and getting an income through them.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by sending us the money directly into our Mpesa accounts. This was a nice initiate because every house had its own needs and therefore sending us the money made it easier for us. Also, the money was unconditional and we all had the opportunity to according to our heart desires. I do not see ant the sector that GiveDirectly failed us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying some building poles, threads, timber, nails, and several pieces of iron sheets. This was purposely for the construction of a more house becasue was old and in a poor state. Also, the mason demanded KES 5000 as his labor charge. Later on, I spent KES 2000 of the transfers on clearing school fees for my children who are in primary schools. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough food for the family

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard my phone ringing in the morning, a notification of a message. Since I could not comprehend messages, I called for my helper who informed me that I had received my first transfer. I felt happy the whole of that day and celebrated with my family for the financial support.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is owning the livestock. Despite them being valuable assets to us, I could not afford to buy any at my own cost. I am now owning a cow and a goat which will reproduce and have many of them. They are a source of wealth and assets to me. I am expecting to sell the offspring to take care of financial needs like raising school fees for my children who are still young.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying livestock which include a cow and a goat that I am currently keeping in my homestead. My expectation is that they will reproduce and increase in number. I can readily sell the offsprings in case of a financial need. I also paid KES 5000 for my children's school fees. They are now comfortably continuing with their studies without interruptions on fees. I also bought new school uniforms for them. I spent the remaining amount to buy daily food and other household items.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I'm planning to use 400 dollars from this donation to construct a descent and a spacious house for my family. This will be a three bedroom house which is enough for my family and visitors too. I'll use a further 300 dollars to buy one pair of ox-plough so as to boost my farming activities thus improving my productivity in the farm. Improved productivity means my family will have a consistent food supply.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is the time I take my rest after a busy day in the farm. I also re-unite with my children at this particular time and take a meal together.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is food insecurity and lack of a descent and a spacious house for my family. Watching my children sleep hungry in a squeezed room is very painful.
