How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Without GD, I would not have been able to complete my house as at now. I was also able to connect water to our compound with the money we received from GiveDirectly and we are optimistic to have clean drinking water in our compound. GiveDirectly has changed my life significantly in many ways.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly did so well in giving us money in lump sum which enabled us to do tangible developments that we have always desired to do. On the other hand I do not see anything that GiveDirectly did not do so well that I have reservations on.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used all of my second transfer to complete my newly built house by doing the finishing on the ceiling and the walls. I had embarked on building a new house but it did not reach its completion after I ran short of cash. I therefore decided to bring it to completion once I got my second transfer that has enabled me to bring it to completion.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that ever since we received this transfer we have been able to plant maize in our farms. This has enabled food security since we are not going to do casual jobs anymore. Our children are no longer sleeping hungry, in fact, we can afford three meals a day more than ever.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I received my first transfer, I was really overjoyed. I have never received such an amount of money in my entire life. in fact, I had to call someone to escort me to an M-Pesa agent for security purposes. That was a turn around in my life since my dream had finally come through.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer on putting up electricity in my home. Ever since we built our house I've always wanted to have electricity. Use of paraffin as a source of light is very expensive and is a pollutant at the time. Therefore, it was our biggest joy when we did put up the electricity. We also spent it on food since our area has a history of drought. We didn't want to have an experience like the one we had the previous year. We spent almost every night sleeping hungry.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We live next to an electricity line but my children still struggle doing their homework because of limited lighting. Receiving this transfer means I will be able to do electrical wiring and get electricity to my home. This will ensure my children study well and cost of lighting also goes down.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is around lunch hour. This is the time that I cook for my family stay with them. It also that time that I finish most of the day's chores and get to relax.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
One of my children has a problem in her head, we used so much resources trying to get her help. We thank God she was finally treated but still needs close follow up because of the condition that she has. This is the biggest hardship I have faced.
