How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to start a business of buying and selling maize since it has a promising profit. I am currently weeding people's maize farms and I earn Kshs.200 per day which can not sustain all my daily family needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, Give Directly did well by giving unconditional cash transfers in a lump sum which made me improve my lifestyle. On the other hand, I do not have any complaints.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Being a single mother of 4,I faced financial challenges hence couldn't afford a spacious house for my family members.Upon receiving my second transfer, I spent KES 35000 acquiring all construction materials for a two-roomed spacious house. The house is complete and we have already moved in. In addition, I paid KES 1000 examination fee for my child. With the remaining amount, I bought foodstuffs and clothes for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had just arrived from the stream where I had gone to fetch water for our daily usage, when I picked my phone I saw a message alert showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly, I was so happy that finally, the transfer was here, It was a day like no other, I knew that all my plans would be accomplished, I am thankful that I was among the beneficiary.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own a dairy cow which I was unable to buy all these years due to financial constraints, I no longer worry about the cost of buying milk daily, Last year I did not harvest enough maize from my farm to last us the whole year due to the harsh climatic conditions, I was relieved when I got the transfer because I was able to stock up four bags of maize, I am happy and relaxed that I have enough foodstuffs in my house, and with that my children will not go to bed on an empty stomach anymore. I am grateful for the support that has changed our lives positively
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a casual labourer in the village and a mother of four children, I have been spending 8 dollars daily on milk because of my young children who depend on it daily, this is very expensive in that I don't have a reliable source of income, The transfer came as a relief on my side, it enabled me to purchase a dairy cow worth 300 dollars, and with that am hopeful that I will have enough milk for my children. In addition to that, I bought four bags of maize worth 160 dollars.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means self-independence to me. I am a single mother living with my four children in my father's compound. I have always wished to settle down in my land, hence $600 of my transfer will make me actualize this dream. I will then use $300 to buy a cow whose income from selling milk daily will supplement my daily wages from casual jobs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My daily routine entails looking for casual jobs to engage in for pay every morning. It is never a guarantee to get such jobs in these remote areas hence whenever I manage to secure one, getting my evening pay is the happiest part of my day, knowing that my children will eat well before retiring to bed.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am a single mother of four doing casual jobs to earn a living. I usually get a pay of $1.5 daily from these jobs, which is only enough to buy food for my children. I have always wished to buy a piece of land to settle in and be self-independent since I live in my father's compound, but lack of resources has made this dream impossible. This is the biggest hardship I have faced in life.
