I have new goals of starting up a new business of selling second hand clothes, as I have always having the passion of being in the business sector.It has high demand as those in middle class do not opt to buy new clothes due to high prices. Before the transfers, I never had such goals in my thoughts as I have been wondering where to get the capital. With the transfers, I am planning to sell out some of the livestock to get capital.

It was around 8 AM when I was just relaxing together with all my family members then I heard my phone vibrating continuously. Having a decent shelter brings the biggest difference in my daily. According to me, this is the greatest fulfillment that will forever remain in my heart. I have been longing to at least renovate my previous house but due to the insufficient funds, this was not achievable. The shelter has been my biggest challenge since our old house was in a pathetic state and very small. It would leak when it rains forcing us to seek shelter elsewhere, also for my children it was a trend since they had to seek shelter every evening. This situation was truly unbearable. I had no hope of upgrading to a better house since we depend on casual jobs with very low incomes. The income only catered for our daily meals and some other household expenses. I am at peace and grateful to GiveDirectly for enabling me to build a new and decent house to live in with my family peacefully. Currently, we no longer have to worry about the harsh climates and even the insecurities since they were among the challenges we encountered previously.

I spent a huge fraction of my first transfer on buying some building materials. I managed to buy iron sheets at KES 24000, building poles KES 10000, nails, and some timber. I intend to build another house because my previous house was very small with holes all over the walls. In addition, it was very small with a family of five it could barely accommodate us all. Some of my children had to seek shelter elsewhere every evening which was a bit stressful. Also, I bought new school uniforms for my kids to replace the old ones which were torn. They are now glad about there since this situation used to demotivate especially when their classmates make fun of them because of their torn uniforms. With the remaining amount, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family which can take us for a couple of days.
