How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In order to boost my income, I intend to purchase another milk cow so that I can sell it to my neighbors when it calves. My children will also have access to sufficient and high-quality milk. Their health will advance as a result. I also intend to start raising chickens. I now have a few, and I hope to expand my flock by getting additional layers so I can sell their eggs and boost my income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
My children's school expenses, food, and the purchase of a cow were all made possible via GiveDirectly. I do not however consider that a given. I really appreciate your assistance, and I have no problems at all.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
A further contribution enabled the purchase of a milk cow. It cost me $150 to buy it. When it has given birth, I am looking forward to selling milk to raise my income and giving my children milk to drink to improve their health. For my form two, college student, and university student, I paid $200 in school fees. As opposed to before, when I would go to school and plead with the teachers to give them a little more time to study or even bring vegetables to their school to make up for their unpaid fees, I now trust they will study without hindrance. The remainder was used to purchase clothing and food for my children. I cultivate vegetables. After I sell these vegetables, I make money. In addition to farming, I am a pastor's wife, and since we both trust in God, everything has been wonderful. Also, I am a mother of six children, four girls, and two boys. My children went to bed hungry before I started getting these transfers since the drought made it difficult for my farm to thrive but now they are full and healthy through these transfers. Thank you so much for your generosity, GiveDirectly.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 7a.m and had gone to fetch water from the river. When came back home I realized I had a message after I took my phone to make a call. Upon checking, it was an MPESA message from Givedirectly confirming a receipt of my first transfer. I was excited and planned on going to withdraw the funds the following day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the achievements that I have witnessed so far in my household. I am grateful to God and Givedirectly for the great support that was timely.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon withdrawal of my first transfer, I prioritized clearing school fees and buying shopping with KES 35,000 for my two sons one in University and the other one in secondary school. The two were able to study peacefully without being sent home. I also bought a heifer for KES 15,000 which is an addition to my livestock. In the future it will grow hence can give us milk for both consumption and for sale to get an extra income. With the remaining amount, I spent on buying food and clothes. I am grateful for all that has transpired in my household after receiving my first transfer and hope to do more with my second transfer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
For 3 years now we have been yearning to own a dairy cow.At the moment we do not have a dairy cow because we sold out the ones we had to cater for our children school fees.We depend on a borrowed cow for milk production and this is insufficient to my family of 9.It is a great joy to me that my dream of owning a dairy cow will come through after receiving this money.I will buy a cow worth KES 45,000 and this will enhance the nutritional value of our household.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Being a small-scale farmer I have experienced joy in the past 3 months due to the presence of rain. The rains have enhanced the availability of feeds and growth of crops in the farm.My happiness was increased majorly because the rains came with my lactating cow had just given birth. This has enabled has to access 6 litres of milk daily which was a challenge before.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am a small scale farmer depending on agriculture as a main source of livelihood. In the past 3 years the weather patterns coupled with diseases have led to decline in agricultural production. For instance last year we harvested 3 bags of maize from a 0.5 acre piece of land and this discouraged me because the yields earned me minimal returns .As a result we have had a prolonged period of financial limitations and food shortages in my household.
