I am grateful that both the first and the second transfer from GiveDirectly enhanced the initiation and the completion of any project that had in place. After graduating from the collection with a certificate in Veterinary Medicine, I am looking forward to a new goal of venturing into a new business. I had been trying my best to start a project that will benefit not only me but also the immediate farmers. At the moment, I have an Agrovet in mind that will both offer veterinary services and other farm products to the community.

Receiving monetary support from GiveDirectly was the best idea. I appreciate the organization so much since I had to decide on my spending, knowing that the money I had received was truly mine. I have nothing to complain about, only that I would suggest that in the future, GiveDirectly could be keen to identify those households that need financial guidance once they have received their transfers. Even though everyone received the same amount, some households are still struggling since someone misinformed their spending pattern.

Construction of a new kitchen was at the top of my list when I received the second transfer. Initially, I had been living with my family of three in a single house that, even though it was spacious, was not conducive because of the fumes from the kitchen area. Construction of a new kitchen at KES 25000 has brought a much difference in that we got more space created with clean air free from the kitchen fumes. In addition, I spent KES 15000 of the remaining amount on obtaining a heifer. Rearing and selling it out in the future at a profit will be a boost to other projects that I am working on at the moment. I also spent the remaining amount on the repair and maintenance of a motorcycle that I had been using in my daily chores and also bought foodstuff for my household. I am happy that I could do a lot within a short time with the generous support from GiveDirectly.

It was around 6 pm and I had gone to the nearest shopping center because there were a few items that I needed from there. I had heard some people back in my village saying that they had already received their transfers. I was hence eagerly waiting for them. Suddenly, I heard my phone ringing hence notifying me of a new message. I stopped to check it and I was so happy on seeing that I had also received the KES 55000 from GiveDirectly. I shared the good news with my family when I got home and they were so happy too.

The transfer has brought a big difference in my life and that of my family. This is because after buying the calves, I see my dream of starting the agro vet business drawing closer. The business is going to enable me to get a stable source of income that will enable me to meet all the needs of my family in the future.

We spent KES 30000 of the recent transfer on buying two calves. The calves are a form of saving money. We plan to sell the calves when they will have matured so that we can get a better sum of money that we will use in starting an agro vet business. I studied veterinary medicine back in college and it has always been my desire to start such kind of business since I have wide knowledge about it. I in the meanwhile usually do my work as a veterinarian to get money for buying food for my family. Other than the calves, we also bought iron sheets at a total cost of approximately KES 11000. We bought the iron sheets because we have a plan to build a kitchen house. We do not have one. We only have one house that we use as a kitchen and for sleeping in it. With the remaining transfer money, we used it in buying clothes for ourselves and the children. We are so much grateful to GiveDirectly for their support.
