How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
For a long time, I have been willing to rear livestock in my compound but because of the financial difficulties, I could not afford it. I am so glad now because GD actualized my dream because I managed to purchase cows, goats, and sheep. Some years back, I used to own some livestock but I had to sell them in order to clear school fees for my children. I am now honored because I am back in my original status. And I feel this brings the difference in my life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirecly does well by giving us the freedom of choice on how to spend the transfers on. This is the part I loved the most because everyone has a different need to meet and this enabled us to have better hoses, livestock, businesses, and many more projects. Our loves have now changed greatly and I do not see ay part GD fauld us.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent KES 9000 of my second transfer on paying school fees for my children who are in primary school. Previously they were always sent home every now and then because of the fees arrears. I then hired someone to prepare my farm since ut was a planting season. In addition, I bought some goats and sheep for KES 12000. These will be the living assets that I will depend on just in case of any financial crisis. With the remaining amount of money, I used in buying enough foodstuffs for my family.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The transfer has enabled me to buy a cow and six sheep. I am proud to own this livestock because if I was to acquire them at my own cost, it would have taken me years to save enough money to buy any of these. I have been facing many challenges such as my children being sent home because I am unable to pay their school fees on time. At least I now have some assets to depend on in case of any financial need, which makes it be the biggest difference in my daily life. I am expecting them to reproduce and increase in number, from which I can sell the offspring and raise more cash to cater for my future financial needs. In addition to this, I will also be benefiting from the milk that the cow will be producing. I will sell the surplus and earn some cash.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was informed by a neighbour early in the morning that GiveDirectly had sent money. Since I could not comprehend messages on my phone, I called for my helper who confirmed to me that indeed I had received KES 55000 from them. I was filled with happiness on hearing this because at least I could now afford to fulfil my household needs with ease.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent KES 24500 to buy a cow and six sheep that I am rearing in my homestead. I was only seeing my neighbours owning this livestock, I only had the desire but looking at my financial position, it couldn't be possible to buy any of them. The coming of GiveDirectly to me has greatly impacted my life since I now own them. I am assured that as they reproduce, then I can readily rely on them in case of any financial need. Besides, I am hoping to benefit from the milk that this cow will be producing. I also bought some building materials which include iron sheets and building poles to build a kitchen. My living house is not spacious thus having a kitchen will improve on space since I will not have to squeeze items inside. I also spent KES 8500 to hire labour to plough my farm and also for weeding maize crops. I cannot efficiently do this job on my own since I am old and weak. Despite this condition, I am hoping to get a good harvest like the others, which I am thankful for. I spent the remaining amount cater for household basic needs such as daily foodstuffs and meeting some household expenses.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been depending on livestock rearing as my long term investment plan, mostly goats. In 2017, I sold all my livestock in order to educate my two children who were in secondary school by then. As at today, I have not been able to obtain enough money to restart this investment, something that makes my life difficult. Receiving this money means a good restart of my of raising livestock. I will spend my first transfer to purchase ten goats at 25 dollars each..
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of my day. This is because, it is at this time when I am back home with a packet of flour to prepare our dinner. I usually feel so happy when we eat our meal together and this gives me joy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Despite educating my children using the last coin from selling of my goats, they have never secured jobs as at today. This has made my life so miserable something that has forced me to opt charcoal burning activity as my source of income for the family. Considering the nature of this job being tiresome, risky and low paying, usually at most 3 dollars per bag, I have wished to restart my livestock project but due to the financial crisis I face, this investment has been an unfulfilled dream. Therefore, lack of a reliable source of income is my biggest hardship.
