We mainly depend on small scale subsistence farming to meet most of our needs such as school fees payment and food for my family. For quite a while now, the farms haven't been producing well and hence little income from the sale of the farm produce. My children were at the brink of being sent home for school fees because I had some arrears pending for my two children. I am glad that the transfers came at the nick of time and I was able to clear the arrears. I am happy now that I do not need to worry that they would be sent home. In my opinion, I loved that the officers from GiveDirectly did not ask for bribes or so many conditions for one to qualify into the program. There was fairness as every household in the village received the same amount. Everything was well done.

I spent part of my first transfer on purchasing a heifer and a sheep to add to my livestock I had Initially. I believe that adding a heifer is a big achievement because I will produce more milk for both household consumption and sales when it calves. I believe the offsprings will give me the security of financial emergencies arising in my family. In addition to this, I also spent a larger amount of the transfer on paying tuition fees for my children in various secondary schools. This has enabled them to comfortably joined the secondary school and continue with their studies for a whole term without any interruptions. I took another part of my transfer to spend on my family clothing and bedding to add and replace the few old we had. I have been spending some amount on to provide for my family's daily basic needs such as food and in paying other household expenses.
