How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I spent all the second transfer on settling my hospital bills. I was feeling unwell and I was admitted at the hospital. When I received the second transfer I felt so happy because I didn't know where to get the money to pay the bills. I do depent on small scale farming and the amount of money that we get through this is so small and could not have settle all the bills. Were it not GiveDirectly I could have sold part of the land. I am so happy because I got the medication on time. I was discharged and now feeling quite better. My children are so happy because my health has improved. Thanks so much GiveDirectly for this amazing support you gave me a second chance to live.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent all the second transfer on my medication. I was feeling unwell and admitted at the hospital. When I received the money I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to settle the hospital bills without selling the land. GiveDirectly came at the right time when I wanted the support.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard the Mpesa notification message around 10am and I immediately handed to mercy Kones. She confirmed and I was very happy and grateful to GD.My kids were very happy when they heard the good news and was withdrawn
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is happiness because I am financially independent. Right now as an old woman I get to choose what I want to it and can access my medication in a timely manner.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer on food and household items because our place is semi arid hence there's food scarcity. I also spent part of my transfer on medication because I have been living with blood pressure for the last 30 years. Initially, I used to depend on government money for the elderly and at times would sell cattle in order to buy medication required on a monthly basis. The condition has restricted me to eat few types of traditional foods and indeginous vegetables which are quite costly.I also spent some on hiring a tractor to till my land, a beautiful dress and some as church offerings. I have saved the rest majorly for food and household consumption.
