The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own a house. I have been longing to construct a big house but due to my financial status, I could not afford it. My previous house was in a very poor condition and whenever it rained it was hectic. My family too never had peace since when it's time to sleep they were forced to sleep at my neighbor's house of which they were uncomfortable. But ever since I constructed this house, the problem is solved. I am now sleeping very comfortably under a decent iron-roofed house with my family and I no longer about the rains which have been a bother to us for all those years.

In my opinion, GiveDirectly did so well in so many ways. One that there was no discrimination. Thus was the best act I liked the most. They only focused on the household-they never bothered about someone's tribe or religion. This made me believe that this organization was the best. Secondly, the money that I received was unconditional. I had all the freedom to choose what to but according to my desires. I don't think there is any sector GD failed us.

I spent part of my second of buying some beddings such a new bed at KES 7000. This was to replace to old traditional bed that I have been using for years. I also bought a new bicycle at KES 8500, I opted to buy it because since the dams are very far from the village the bicycle will be of great help to me because it will make it easier. I then bought some household items such as utensils, a charcoal jiko at KES 3200. I then bought a new wooden door for the new house which I had initially constructed using the first transfers. The remaining amount of money I will use it to pay down the dowry to my inlaws at KES 20000. The remaining amount of money, I am using it in buying some foodstuffs for my family.

Having my own semi-permanent house has made my life to be very different. Previously everyone could say I was mentally ill because of the condition of my house. The house was very small and its condition was critical. The worst part is that one could see everything that was inside. Most of my properties were stolen because of the condition of the house. In addition to this, whenever it could rain I used to seek shelter from my relatives which were so stressful. I am now happy because I am sleeping under a descent house and I am planning to look for a spouse since the women in the village were avoiding me due to the condition of my house and my life in general. I felt I was embarrassed. I never thought I would marry anytime soon. My life had totally changed.

I remember being awakened by the loud vibration from my mobile phone. Out of curiosity, I decided to check it's content to find out what the message was all about. Upon checking, I realized that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I was so happy and without wasting time, I started planning on how I could utilize it.

I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as iron sheets, building poles, nails, ropes, and timber. This was purposely for the construction of a new house because the previous one was very small and in poor condition. The house could leak which made me seek shelter from my relatives that did not ogre well with me. I also cleared some bills from the shops and bought a new mattress too. It has been of help especially at night. Solar energy is much better than using candles because it is cost-effective. I am now using the solar panel in charging my phone and those of my neighbors at a fee. The remaining amount was spent on purchasing enough foodstuffs and some other household items.
