How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been if I never received a transfer because I managed to take my daughter to high school. I never thought of taking my daughter to school because I earned very little from the farm labour jobs that I do that I could not manage to save enough for her school fees. I also managed to buy new chairs in my house because the ones I formerly had were old and had broken arms and legs. My living standard has greatly changed because I can manage to get meals and also bought new clothes for my household members unlike the past when having all meals in a day was unheard of.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by giving individual freedom to make choices on how to spend their money. The transfers are also sent to an individual's mobile phones account which has enhanced a lot of transparency in their work. I personally do not think there is an area that GiveDirectly does not handle properly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to pay school fees and to buy school items for my daughter who was joining high school. I never knew my daughter would have continued with her education because I could not raise money to pay for her school fees. I also used part of the money to hire a tractor to plough my farm which I have already planted some maize, beans and sorghum on. I spent the last bit of the money to buy two sacks of maize which would serve me as I wait for the next harvest.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means happiness in my life. I would like to spend the transfer in paying school fees for my son who is in high school.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I get paid for the casual labor that I offer and buy food for my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life is lack of reliable source of income. I depend on casual labor that is seasonal and tedious. I get little payments that cannot support my family sometimes we go on empty stomach due to lack of food.
