Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was exactly 9am when I was at home relaxing under a shade after completing my morning household chores . My phone was with my helper who break the good news about the transfer I had been eagly waiting for. I was filled with joy after receiving my transfer.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Owing a decent irony roofed house like others in the village is the biggest difference in my life. This has restored my privacy and self-reliance with my family since I no longer seek shelter from my neighbours.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My house is grass thatched and leaks during the rain season. Despite this condition, the roof was blown away by strong winds. This forced me to seek refuge from my neighbour together with my children. The moment I received my transfer my first priority was to construct a house, I spent $300 of my transfer on the this. I also spent the remaining amount to clear fee arrears for my children and purchased food for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
For a long time I have desired to own a better house. This dream couldn't be achieved due to my low financial status. My house is very small and damaged at the same time. I feel quite unsafe in this structure because it might fall anytime. Receiving this money therefore means, constructing a good house. Besides, I will purchase livestock that will finance my son's education.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happier in the morning when the weather is still cool. This enables me to conduct my duties efficiently because I don't tire easily. This area being hot and dry, I have never enjoyed the afternoons because of the schorching sun.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Since I was born, I have never known a different source of income other than burning charcoal. I used to be productive during my youthful days because I had the energy to do it. Currently the much I produce is 700 shillings a week because there a no more trees. This amount is insufficient and it is what has made me unable to live a decent life. I can therefore say, financial instability is my biggest hardship.
