How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now different than before as i now have enough food for the entire household..I also managed to purchase clothes for me and my children...
In addition to that a have a better sleeping place as I have a mattress and new blankets..This means that during winter we won't be suffering anymore as we were in the past.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I think what givedirectly do well is providing the cash transfer in which the power on how to spend it is in us...This helps alot as i was able to make my own decisions based on the challenges that i have been facing in the past..For instance, without the provision of the cash i could have been unable to start this new business.
Also, givedirectly gave me a phone and a simcard..On my own I could have never managed to purchase one..With the phone, I'm able to communicate with people around my area as well as my relatives that lives in far places.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my second cash transfer to establish a new business of selling rice..So i bought some bags of rice for a start..

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always been a business oriented person as you can see beside my house, there was a minishop. I used to sell different groceries to the neighbouring houses. When the pandemic began, I ended up using the savings for food and other necessities. This has made my house food insecure as the harvest is always never enough every year. Hence, this money will assist me to reopen the shop again, buy some goats and also build a proper house. These are the things I have always dreamt of but I had no means to earn some money. This project has given me hope that my family will be secure in the coming months and years if all goes according to plan.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Living in a village like this, there is nothing that would really make us happy like those in towns. The only happy times we have is to see our children having enough food for that day and chatting with them in the evening when resting.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
This village is very far from town and the only thing that makes us be here is the abundance of land. The problems associated with this land is that the cultivation is never done properly as we lack necessary farming materials each year. Hence, we always farm on a small scale and eventually end up not harvesting enough. Lack of inputs is always the biggest hardship we face here.
